Neighbor is living her best life on Disability with "Long Covid"

Anonymous
LOL at OP stewing in jealousy while her neighbor is out living her life.

You can report her, OP. It's going to make you even more of a bitter, jealous old biddy than you already are, but if you really hate other people doing things their way, it's always an option!

I'm with OP on this. No respect for people who fraudulently claim disability.
Anonymous
Also agree with OP. These people ruin it for those who are legitimately in need.

It is incredibly difficult to get Social Security disability. My adult nephew is severely disabled, and cannot walk, talk, or feed himself. My sister had to jump through hoops and had a home visit and a lot of other things to qualify for SS disability. And she only gets about $1500 a month for him. Barely even covers his food bills.

So, she had to prove at two different places that she is disabled and half the DCUM believes she is fine to work and scamming.

Depends on how good of a lawyer she could get.

One of my friends had to wait for a year after a stroke and borrow money not to starve, and she was rejected the first time. But she had little money to get a lawyer.

She could have trouble thinking. Hosting a book club is easier than working a job.

For a younger individual, SS is only going to find her disabled if she cannot do even the basic physical and mental demands even sedentary, unskilled work. If she can host a book club, she can probably sit on an assembly bench doing repetitive work.

Fed disability retirement may be different. I believe it looks as whether you can do your own or a comparable job.

I wonder if OP is right that the neighbor is on both or maybe it’s just fed retirement.

Sometimes, that's true. Y

You can buy disability insurance, which I did, that protects your level and type of work. In other words, if you are an attorney, you won't have to get a job at McDonald's if you can't do your attorney work.

OP doesn't know what type of DI the woman with long COVID has and is making a lot of assumptions.

Anonymous wrote:Your facts are wrong, OP. Long covid is not actually a category for while social security grants disability applications. She must have other things going on, or she’s not getting social security.

It’s not SS. It’s a disability plan she payed into.

Neither are desk jobs.

You don't know what her job is. OP is a jerk.

Anonymous wrote:How do you know she collects disability? Maybe when she got sick and initially had disability and received it for a period of time. And after she got better, she and her husband decided that she did not need to have the stress of work and that they could afford for her to stay home. I really don't understand how you can know the financial workings of a neighbor. Unless she publicly talks about it, which I cannot imagine being the case if she's out playing tennis.

This is probably what happened.

The insurance policy is paying her. Why do you care?

Do you not understand how insurance works? When people like this awful woman take advantage, it goes up for all of us, which is precisely why we should all care. She's completely abusing the system.

You are the one that doesn’t understand the system. Insurance companies will do everything in their power did not pay out of policy. Not defrauding insurance company. And premiums are not going up for everybody. GMAFB

There’s no insurance company in the world it isn’t making out like a bandit

As terrible as insurance companies are, two wrongs don't make a right. And people abusing the system are still rotten in the same "I got mine!" way.

Insurance companies require 3 doctors evaluation, she not gaming the system,

Yet it still happens. A friend severed on the jury in an insurance fraud case. Guy was on disability and doing also sorts of manual labor sound good house. There were videos of him.

Op If you are concerned report her.

This is just as bad as rumors about so-called welfare queens. Social security disability is extremely hard to get and pays very little. Other long term disability insurance plans are usually for a limited term, so one can’t live off them forever, especially someone as young as the OP claims her neighbor to be.

This is terrible propaganda and should not be allowed on DCUM.

I have long covid. I would give anything to play tennis and go on vacations again. My life is now awful and it is maddening to see someone taking advantage of the system like this. I am not on disability due to being a former stay at home mom (originally a Physical Therapist) Now I can barely help care for my kids.
