It's for pay, not volunteer. And what are your kids doing on their 3rd snow day of the week that is so valuable? Getting to another level in a video games? |
They are highly productive without being in school. We don’t need pocket change from people who cannot traverse a few inches of snow. |
Do you know when his birthday is? Because he may be 31 by now. |
buy some salt! |
you will if someone slips and you get sued. |
Just argue unsafe and inappropriate footwear and counter-sue to recoup legal costs. |
My husband was out of town and my kids had a snow day. We live on a corner so I started shoveling did about 30% of the sidewalk and started on my (long) walkway to the front door and driveway. Neighbor was out with a snowblower and finished the rest of the sidewalk for me. Was really nice and thoughtful.
These neighbors go away a lot and we watch their pets, bring in their mail, take out trash, etc, but this is what neighbors do. You help one another. The neighbor across the way shovels the sidewalk for an elderly neighbor. I put down salt because we have some neighbors who like to complain. It is winter, snow melts and turns to ice, be careful! |
OK, Ayn Rand. Please go say this to the face of my neighbors whose teenage daughter has spina bifida and walks effortfully with leg braces that don't fit into snow boots and has poor balance on uneven or unstable terrain. Tell them that their daughter should be able to "traverse a few inches of snow" because it's "not difficult" and that she deserves to be trapped in the house all winter, because who wants to see those defective people in public anyway? It's their own fault for being that way and they should just lump it. Tell them what a bunch of whiny complainers they are for having the temerity to worry about their daughter's safety and mobility. "How our amoral selfish family stuck it to the crippled loser next door," that'll be a unique college essay topic! |
You realize we get at most 1-2 weeks of snow a year lol. |
Why are you so involved? Why can’t you find some hobbies and shit? Shoveling snow is a shit ton of work. Perhaps he is waiting for it to melt or for the people he hired to come do it for him. Relax, have a drink, and let him do what he wants. |
If he lives in a county where it’s not legally required then who cares? I shovel because my sidewalk gets a lot of pedestrian traffic, but many sidewalks out in the suburbs don’t get much use, especially during below-freezing temps. |
You don't know why.
At 30 years old I blew out my back and had debilitating pain from multiple herniated discs. Walking was my only form of therapy and relief because standing placed the least amount of stress on my back other than lying down. No way could I have shoveled snow though. |
DH and I grew up where there was always snow in the winter, and lots of it. We go out and shovel our sidewalks and our elderly neighbors sidewalks and driveways. DC all go out to help now that they are old enough.
Both our parents still live at home. My brothers will make sure my parents and any elderly neighbors are shoveled out. |
All the more reason that refusing to shovel makes you a jerk. It's not like it's constant or you have to do it very much, yet you still can't be bothered. |
It really doesn’t matter at all. Get a life. |
