complete and utter crap. Supply a source that shows this.

Why the controversy. Everyone knows it's easy to get into UMD with a B average. That's virtually impossible at UVA.

Ultra-liberal in NOVA here. Would not live anywhere else. Anyone who thinks Alex or Arlington are dominated by republicans is nuts. Hey, John McCain's brother called this "communist country"!

However: I taught at UVa until moving here a few years ago, and it is accurate to say that there are plans to substantially raise both in state and out of state tuition. However, out of state tuition will rise more steeply than in-state tuition. And it is a pretty safe assumption that other states will be doing the very same thing (many already have done so).

It also remains true that in-state applicants have a strong admisisons advantage at UVa -- and yes, despite the steeper competition, NOVA kids still have an edge over out of staters.

RE: UVa
What about county-by-county admissions quotas? I can say with confidence that a Rockbridge Co. student with same stats/activities/recs as my stellar DC from FFX Co. would have an admissions edge b/c NoVa students are overly represented. I thought the current student body breakdown at UVa is 1/3 NoVa, 1/3 rest of VA, 1/3 OOS. Would you say this is accurate, PP?

moot point for most of you Marylanders, you can't get into UVa anyway.

Since U.S. News began a separate listing of the top 50 public universities, U.Va. has never been ranked lower than No. 2.

I think the reason UVa's acceptance rate is so high is that only people with high GPA and high SATs bother to apply. Those who know they can't get in consider other places.

I have a simple answer to this one.
Assuming you could gain admission, where would you rather go to school - College Park, Md. or Charlottesville, Va?
I would think the answer to that one's a no-brainer.

I think I would like to be a lawyer and maybe work for Under Armour or Google someday, if I study Reeeeeeeaaaalllly hard . I am not very athletic so all those championships at Umd kind of intimidate me. Additionally, all those Nobel faculty at Umd teach really hard classes at Umd like engineering, physics and computer science...like I said, I want to be a lawyer, so I have no use for that hard stuff.....I PICK CHARLOTTESVILLE!!!!!!
