UVA - out of state admissions

Ouch. 70k tuition oos for UVA is not worth it; if not going in-state in Cali, at least go private and get a semblance of “value” for what you are paying for.

You are an idiot. UVA OOS is $55.914. My stupid So Cal SLAC is $90K a year AND SO NOT WORTHe= IT! I was an idiot and went to the stupid So Cal SLAC instead of OOS UVA. OMG what a bad decision!

What are chances for my in-state DC - 14 APs - all 5s to date, equal amount of humanities and science/math, including MV calc, likely 4.5-4.6, 1550, three sports all four years (Varsity), many volunteer hours, various general awards (language, scouts) and general ECs (honor societies). Has not started a non-profit or made some groundbreaking discovery in a garage lab. Motivated, well-rounded student but I have no idea what schools we should be targeting. According to DCUM kids like mine are “a dime per dozen”. Any thoughts here are appreciated!

Isn’t highly correlated to class rank, have to be in the top 6 percent or so, for in state? I

UVA in state? He should apply. My kid got in EA and had slightly lower SAT (but over 1500) and the MV calc and ECs and APs blah blah blah. Got in EA. Didn’t get in all reach schools. Who knows why. Got lots of merit offers at other schools.

Thank you, sounds like a similar profile for in-state. Do think it was worthwhile to EA vs ED? Will your son attend UVA?

Yes, my student is going. They were not set on UVA so did not ED. But if it’s your son’s first choice then he should ED.
