I believe his approval rating now is at 37%. He's a war mongering, genocidal, racist. I hate this man. I cannot bring myself to vote for him. It really is a decision of two evils. At this point, I may be stuck voting for Marianne Williamson. That's really all we've got.

Which would mean making a GOP victory more likely. So screw you.

Um, screw you for funding the mass murder of innocent civilians? I will not vote Biden and most of the Ds I know have said the same. Almost everyone that I know in the Arab and Muslim communities cannot stomach the idea. My DH said he will sit out. I will vote Williamson unless there is a more viable alternative between now and November.

And do you at all care about Israel? Doubt it.

Do you recognize that Israel's existence was predicated on the murder of thousands and displacement of millions? Why can no pro-Israel folks admit that? Its bad to kill thousands of people. If you can get Israel to remove illegal occupations, prosecute settler violence, promote equal rights for Palestinians, and end the dehumanization of the Arab population then I would gladly vote to continue sending aid. The current government is genocidal. Ben Gvir is putting forth legislation to allow IDF officers to open live fire during protests held by Palestinian citizens. Legal slaughter. It's inhuman. I do not want $6B annually in my tax money going to that regime.

This post demonstrates the problem perfectly.

IMO, the above is not "expressing sympathy for the Palestinians", it is 100% blaming Israel for its very existence (and everything else that's happened since).

I'm not suggesting it be censored, but this (and even worse) is what lurks below many of the seemingly innocuous "sympathy for Palestinians" comments.

And this post perfectly demonstrates the pro-Israel lobby's inability to recognize what happened in 1948. Do you not believe that the Israeli army with the funding and backing of the UK and US killed thousands and forcibly removed millions from their homes? Do the horrors of the Holocaust - committed by the German government - give the the IDF carte blanche to then kill and remove millions? And take away their humanity for a period of 75 years?

This is what I don't understand. Why is the pro-Israel group fine with killing an entire population? I just don't get it.

This. Also, read the article “the Israel Lobby”.

I mean look at America. Look at it. Off the bat, we are comprised of a county of basically 1/3 Evangelicals. These folks claim to love Israel, but they do it basically from a self-serving biblical perspective: God shines on Israel and also there needs to be an Israel as part of end time prophecy, and supposedly all the Jews are supposed to convert etc. So really they don’t care about Israel, but it’s a sort of symbiotic relationship.

So there’s that support.

I love my Jewish friends. I reached out and checked in with many of them recently letting them know I support them.

At the same time, you can’t ignore that like 800,000 Palestinians were forced off their land in like 1948 or whatever to make room for Israel. The Us and England basically had a huge hand in this.

And now Israel has basically cordoned off all these Palestinians into walled ghettos. And now they’re gonna take North Gaza and keep it and probably let Orthodox settlers annex it with all the other land that’s slowly but surely been annexed over the decades by settlers.

I look at Facebook and basically a lot of propose are like “if you’re silent and don’t speak up for me you’re complicit!!!”

I don’t agree with that. I can both be outraged at the hostage taking and killings, but also about Israel’s batsht crazy haredim led governmentx, it’s history of oppression of Palestinians, and that is probably seizing this opportunity to take more land and not give it back.

So no. I will decry both sides, but still support my US Jewish friends. I won’t be cowed into silence because it’s no PC to talk about both sides or whatever silencing techniques are being employed. its kind of crazy seeing donors taking away endorsements to their Alma matar colleges and what have you as well. Free speech is uncomfortable. Obviously, racism and real anti-dentist is terrible. But just looking at both sides objectively is not.

You might want to read more about what actually happened with the UN partition plan and the Arab League declaring war.

1. You're very, very wrong about the history of the founding of Israel. You should REALLY educate yourself on the responses to
UN resolution 181.

2. I think you're overstating the evangelical point and neglecting the effect of post-WWII sentiment.

To add, the major issue is that those who are pro-Israel usually think that there was nothing wrong in the foundation of Israel. They cannot admit or recognize how many died or the generational trauma that was caused by forcing so many off their homes, into refugee camps, and a stateless existence. Aboriginal Australians have campaigned the AUS government for decades for an apology for what happened to them. I believe it was the "sorry campaign" becuase they just wanted some recognition for the wrong that was inflicted on them. For many Palestinians, it is the same. They want some recognition of the atrocities that were inflicted. And similar with Armenia's push to categorize what Turkey did to them as a genocide. But like the Armenia-Turkey issue, Israel refuses to recognize what they did to an entire population. It's disheartening to see how little humans are valued.

I’ll add a third point:

Lost in a lot of this is the recognition that Jews were stateless after WWII. We were IDPs. Those of us who tried to go back to our homes in Poland and other European countries found that our former neighbors had moved into our houses. Some of us were killed by them.

Listen: I don’t want people displaced. But Jews had nowhere to go. Our best option was to join the 500,000 Jews already in Mandatory Palestine.

I am all for censoring speech when that speech is in praise and support of terrorists.
I remember American citizens being arrested for planning to join ISIS or for supporting ISIS. This is no different.

Would you be calling for a ceasefire on the US if Hamas came and raided your homes, snatched your children, raped your family members, and murdered your family right before you very eyes? No. You'd be standing in the street waving the US flag saying bomb the crap out of those monsters like we all did after our country was attacked on 9/11. So why can't Israel defend itself like very other country? oh right--because they somehow deserved it. got it.

Amazing that you're invoking the Iraq War. You know, the 20 year war that killed thousands of civilians, costs billions of dollars, got us absolutely nowhere and was enabled under the knowingly faulty premise of WMDs. Oh, and the one that caused anti-war protests that thousands - like yourself - tried to silence? We have learned absolutely nothing. Plus, bombing Gaza is nothing like Iraq. You're all for shooting rounds into a fishbowl

Are you forgetting we were in Afghanistan before we went into Iraq? Go back and review your history books. This has nothing to do with Iraq. It has to do with defending your country after you've been attacked. And if Hamas cared so much about protecting their civilians they would have built bomb shelters to protect them for their "oppressor" but instead they built themselves tunnels to receive arms from Iran and hold people hostage.

I was not standing in the street waving a US flag cheering on the bombing after 9/11. I was against the wars then and I am against the bombing of Gaza now.

Our actions were not self-defense and in hindsight they were disastrous.

Israel's siege and bombing of Gaza is not self-defense. It's revenge and collective punishment.

I never said I think there was nothing wrong with the founding of Israel.

My problem is when people cast it as a black and white “colonizer vs indigenous people” issue.

Argument on the facts belongs in the other thread.

But thank you for PERFECTLY demonstrating that "sympathy for the Palestinians" is often really "hate for Israel".

1. You're very, very wrong about the history of the founding of Israel. You should REALLY educate yourself on the responses to
UN resolution 181.

2. I think you're overstating the evangelical point and neglecting the effect of post-WWII sentiment.

And killing and removing 750,000 Palestinians. So that was the best option for Jews? That's what happened.

I never said they should have been removed.

But what should Jews have done? We accepted the UN partition plan. The Arabs did not and the Arab League declared war.
