Yes, that is the small proportion of people which owns large proportion of the guns. Evidently you hang out with gun people. That skews your perspective. |
Every time I consider getting a handgun, I worry that I might pull it out and shoot some a$$hole cutting me off in traffic or tailgating me. So I don’t. |
If you want to see people open carry, go to Charlestown, WV. I see it all the time over there. |
In Western Maryland and WVA most gun owners will call 811. Not 911 like folks in the city do!! |
There are, at a minimum, hundreds of thousands of defensive gun uses in the US each year. Most do not require any shooting because the mere display of the firearm ends the criminal assault. |
"Yes, that is the small proportion of people which owns large proportion of the guns.
Evidently you hang out with gun people. That skews your perspective." Sure, I hang out with some gun people. Mostly law enforcement and military. But my circle of friends and such is not all gun people. I get asked alot by people I work with how to go about buying a gun and if it is that much of a pain as they here. I explain the process and they for the most part understand that in order to get one these days, they have to deal with the paperwork, training and fingerprinting. I have been at gun shows and since I guess I look like I know something as I am just buying stuff without asking the vendor questions, people will just start asking me what guns they should buy as they are first time buyers and they don't know what to get or they are looking to buy one but they are quite nervous to do so. If you think I am exaggerating, that's fine. I just know what I have experienced. If you don't like guns, that's fine with me too. I always tell people who don't, that's ok with me. They are not for everyone. |
You hang out with gun people and assume, from that, that the majority of people are gun people. That's a false assumption. |

I dont assume anything at all. I just know from experience. Your results may vary. |
You know from your experience hanging out with gun people... It's like skateboard people deciding that everybody skateboards. |
You are uninformed, or a propogandist. https://www.nbcwashington.com/investigations/very-very-very-busy-business-as-dc-maryland-residents-seek-more-gun-permits/3259160/ Good for you, OP, stay safe. I have several co-workers and acquaintances, all Ds, who also got CC permits in the past 2 years. |
you do you. I cant convert or correct or change your view. Much like you cannot do the same to me |
OP here. I really appreciate this question. I have thought about this a lot since deciding to carry. If it is my only option to protect myself or my family, yes. And still, I know my life would be changed forever. It's a terrible but important thought exercise I think anyone making the choice to carry should undertake with seriousness. I have decided I could live with myself and my actions under a narrow set of circumstances. |
A pre-COVID, pre-Defund the Police study that gives a perspective on gun ownership in America - https://www.pewresearch.org/social-trends/2017/06/22/the-demographics-of-gun-ownership/ the number of gun owners has only risen since the study was conducted. |
You sound very rational OP. I think you made a good decision. I hope you don’t have to ever use it. |
I hope you're spending plenty of time at the gun range. Too many people just take the basic training and leave it at that. |
