THIS EVENT HAPPENED IN HIS WARD. That's why he is being brought up on this thread. He's not being randomly singled out. We are his constituents and we are complaining about our council member's response to crime that is happening outside our homes. I'm not talking about other council members because (1) they don't represent my ward, and (2) this crime didn't happen in their wards.

And he chaired the committee that wrote the stupid crime bill that has blown up into a giant clusterf--k on a national stage over the last month. "CA has some, not a lot, of influence on what the city does about violence." Are you freaking kidding me?

If CA wants to make himself a major policymaker on criminal justice issues in DC when it allows him to cater to certain activist groups and placate certain constituents, he doesn't then get to pretend that he has no power at all over the issue when other constituents who are being directly impacted by violent crime call for him to take action. He also doesn't get to blame the mayor and the police chief for crimes in his ward without explaining exactly how they are to blame.

Otherwise it's just buck passing. Personally, I dislike Bowser but I think one of the primary causes of the current crime wave was prolonged school closures that left too many of our young people on their own for too long, leading to alarming criminality among very young people in the city. At least Bowser seemed invested in reopening schools sooner. Just as a for instance.

I am a brand new poster and completely agree. I tried to engage CA via email a few months ago, pleading with him to change his tune on the horrific crime that’s driving families like mine out of the District. He gaslit through the whole exchange, asking me to show him where he was proposing reducing penalties for carjacking or allowing young violent offenders to have complete impunity. He’s a disgrace. Thank God Biden did the right thing.

Someone needs to run against him. I've been saying for years that there is hunger for a social progressive in DC who cares about quality of life for middle class residents, which means a practical approach to crime that doesn't depend on pie in the sky utopian theories. Yes to after school programs and more mental health services and community outreach. But ALSO yes to tough penalties for violent crimes and really caring for the victims of violent crimes, not just paying them lip service while doing little to help them.

I also want to see a black person run against him. I dare all the "well-intentioned" Allen supporters on the Hill to explain why they won't vote for a black progressive who runs to Allen's right on criminal justice issues.
