How could you possibly know this? |
The Robinson parents should demand a survey be conducted. Perhaps the PTA could spearhead this effort.
The School Board will likely refuse because they don't want to hear the results and know there would be ripple effects. |
Wait… no one forced you to buy a house. Exactly why do you hate IB? |
Would be interesting to see an update to this article from 2015 that talked uptick in IB programs at high poverty schools: https://www.edweek.org/leadership/international-baccalaureate-saw-rapid-growth-in-high-poverty-schools/2015/07 |
Not true. It’s strongly recommended not to take 6. And who the hell would take 6 AP courses their senior year? |
OP here… YES!! |
Look at FCPS: Annandale High School Edison High School Justice High School Lewis High School Marshall High School Mount Vernon High School Robinson Secondary School South Lakes High School 5 out of the 8 schools offering it just happen to be the poorest in the county |
I'm a parent of one child who earned the IB diploma and another one who is a current senior and is pursuing the diploma. You know why more students don't do the diploma? Because it's a rat race and pressure cooker. Students in IB high schools see how much work the full diploma is, and decide they don't want the pressure and work. I am a huge fan of doing the full IB diploma. I believe it is an excellent prep for college level work and really sets students up to succeed once they get into college. But it is not for every student - you have to really want to do all of the requirements and it is a very structured program that doesn't allow much flexibility. I especially HATE how FCPS has implemented the IB program. If I were in charge, I would have 2-3 magnet IB high schools in the county and put AP into the other 22 high schools and really increase the amount of dual enrollment courses offered in the high FARMS high schools. |
amen, and no lockers even if you requested one, can't use the restroom during class change or lunch due to long lines. its awful! |
Lake Braddock is attracting a lot more kids, including pupil placements, than Robinson. So the complaints sound a little bit like the old Yogi Berra line "no one goes there anymore, it's too crowded." |
Does Lake Braddock have a principal yet? Or again? I’d rather have IB than a rotating door for principals. |
Maybe they are trying to find a permanent replacement who didn't get into hot water for marketing worthless land to teachers like one of the Robinson principals? |
I thought that IB was terrific for my kid, who did the full diploma and was very well prepared for college. It’s a well-integrated sequence of classes with an emphasis on critical thinking and writing. The kids that did the HL math classes were the wicked smart kids, and if they did well enough on the tests, they got college credit, just like in AP. My kid started at a selective university with college credit. The HL math and science courses were very rigorous. I don’t know why people don’t like it. |
You aren't military, are you? Most military families do not want IB. Most military families with high school kids are not transfering from Ehropean DOD schools in search of IB high schools. |
The milktary families who chose Robinson did so for the nicer houses or because they couldn't find housing zoned for WS or LB. IB was a drawback. |
