Is wearing Redskins Memorabilia derogatory or socially acceptable?

Cleveland changed from the Indians to the Guardians earlier this year. Stop embarrassing yourself by pretending you know sports.

which is actually really sad since they were named after LOUIS "CHIEF" SOCKALEXIS but the logos were an embarrassment. I know that the Cleveland team was named Indians b/c of the first Native American Major League player was on that team from reading about it in a random John Bellairs book as a kid. I guess it would be weird if the dodgers changed their name to be the Duhame or the Igbo so even if its a good reason, its still offensive.

What if the person wearing it is African-American ?

If worn by an AA person, it is not racist. But it could still be prejudice.

I just don't understand this narrative that AA people can't be racist.

The logo (and its offensive nature) had nothing to do with AA people.

seriously- as an Asian American , African Americans can 100% be very bigoted and racist to the point that it negatively affects your life (the bigotry actually gets in the way of your success or ability to peacefully go about your business).

This is just 100% false. My Native American family cares very much.

OK, well that's you. And I'm sorry you choose to find offense with this. According to the Post's national survery on this issue several years ago, the vast majority of Native Americans find no offense at all. So you hardly speak for everyone.

and do you know why?? because a decade or more ago when they did the survey- the population surveyed said that a racial slur wasn't a big enough problem in the hierarchy of the ongoing violence that they had to deal with in their lives as American Indians (the preferred name ash the time the surveys were administered), Many Respondents laughed and said I wish a racial slur like redskin was the only racism I faced in my life. I dont think that counts as people actually being ok with it.

Or more correctly, an argument from authority.

If you wear Redskins gear, you look like yet another loser, longing for the supposed glorious past. Like Trump and the flat earth society.

Do it if you like, but it shows your ignorance and inability to think deeply.

I’m sure this sounded better in your head as you were tapping it out.

Plus, the correct term is Native American, not “Indian.” That is a slur.

African-Americans cannot, by definition, be racist.

Look it up.

I see a ton of Redskins stuff when I’m out and about. I think it’s fine.

Our family has been Washington team fans forever. We have gotten rid of all our old gear. Why? It's not worth the risk of harm. Commanders offends no one, R*dskins might offend, at the least. At the worst it signals you are racist who doesn't care about a marginalized group's feelings.

I guarantee every comment on here saying "it's fine" or complaining that evolving language makes you woke are old, white MAGA men.

It's a simple swap honestly. I had stopped buying anything supporting Dan Snyder years ago, and was perfectly happy actually support the team again by buying some news things.- We also aren't psychos who have our entire house dedicated to a team. So it was a new jersey here or there and a few t-shirts or hats over the last year or two.
