I’ve been out of work for 10 years raising a family. I’ve always thought that Document Review could be a viable option for getting back into the workforce but never wanted to travel to the location. Now with COVID, there are a few remote opportunities. Can anyone who is familiar with Document Review weigh in? I haven’t practiced law in quite some time. I am most certainly rusty, but am hoping I will be able to catch on quickly.
Thanks! |
No one? |
I don’t think it’s clear what your question is. |
I haven't personally done it, but sure, why not? |
What's your question? Is this a thing you can do even though you've been out for 10 years? Yes it is, as long as your bar membership is still current. Is it a good pathway back to practicing law? Not really, unless you want to do doc review. |
I’m not OP, but I’m following. Has anyone had experience doing doc review remotely? What is the nature of the work nowadays, given the new technology? OP, where are you seeing the remote job listings? |
Talk to a recruiter or legal temp agency.
At my last company we outsourced doc review to India. However, they were in a secure facility, working with secure files and new technology. It was more strict than airport security to get in and out. |
Do you know how to use Relativity? |
Security is the issue. The lawyers, clients, and temp agencies would all need to be on board. Keep in mind they keep track of your review rate and things are checked. |
This is what I think matters. They will want you to be at ease with the review platform, not having to learn on the job, and relativity is the most common platform right now. |
It's also really, really boring. Are you prepared for that? And as others have said, it isn't a path back into legal practice. But it is a job that requires bar admission and some legal skills, so the pay isn't too bad. |
Op here. No I don’t. I’ll need to check into it. Thanks |
Thanks. I think you definitely answered one of my questions. |

Lexolution, Legal Placements, Law Counsel, Epiq, Consilio, MPlace, etc are all actively looking for reviewers. The Posse List is a great mailing list for upcoming projects from all of them.
