7/24/23 Trial of Usman Shahid -- driver who killed two Oakton teens

He is not in a toy car .
This is a horrible way to go honestly!
I couldn’t even believe what I am reading.
The audacity to even argue if anyone looked this that there
Like stop right there
A car at 81 mph is crazy.
The impact must have been tons of weight. The girls got crushed

Can you even have many passengers in the car with you with a learners permit? I thought you needed a parent in the car with you…
A learners permit means you are learning how to drive.
It’s not a full drivers license….
To my knowledge it is a restricted one

You need someone over 21, not necessarily a parent, but presumably someone who is instructing you. It’s not a license to drive.

This is a very grave situation.
It’s unimaginable to be driving 81 on a street Where limit is 35.
You can’t try to shift blame.
This is outrageous. Complete disregard for any life.
This is crazy

Acknowledging that two people made errors leading to fatalities isn’t shifting blame. It’s holding everyone accountable. It’s not a zero sum game.

It is futile to argue with these people…
Very sad.
Only one was charged, that is a fact. As far as I know. Correct me if I am wrong then.
Two people aren’t at fault. It wasn’t the suv that mowed the girls down. Was it?
Am I wrong?

The SUV driver was stopped in the opposing lane of traffic because he didn’t look for pedestrians before he turned - his path was not clear.

He was granted immunity in exchange for his testimony.

It was a smaller error in comparison to the speeding and hitting the gas at the last minute but it was an error that contributed towards the accident/fatalities.

It’s a good thing the authorities and the jury disagreed with your assessment.
You’re entitled to your opinion. Doesn’t mean it carries any weight.

Please don't speed. If you have a car, drive defensively, not offensively. Don't speed and you will be able to react when something unexpected happens. Learn from this.

I'm sure the SUV driver wishes he had done something differently that day, waited to enter the intersection, gone a different way, stayed home sick. It's natural to think that after a car accident. But he wasn't at fault.

The cause of the accident was the BMW's speed. Like so many other recent fatal accidents.

The jury didn’t decide anything about the 4Runner - only shahid.

And he wasn’t charged because he was granted immunity for his testimony.

Anyway, he will likely be held accountable in the civil case.

I understand how they are trying to change the facts and narrative.

I see !!!!
There is only one car that crushed those girls

Yes, we feel awful for the 2 girls that were killed and the 3rd girl who was seriously injured.

Am I the only one who sees the driver of the 4 runner as a victim too? I feel really bad for him too.

+100. He was traumatized by Shahid as well.

I can’t begin to understand the PTSD the girls families must be experiencing…
seriously

I am sorry anyone here trying to shift blame blows my mind…
It is insult to injury

These people have zero respect for lives lost and clearly no remorse

It sounds to me as though they are confused as to how the jurors didn’t think as they do… that his life was/is worth more than the lives of the people he killed and so therefore he deserved special treatment.

Perhaps they truly believe that the people he killed were garbage people, and therefore disposable and that the jury should have been able to look at him and see what they believed.

Fortunately most people are decent and don’t think this way. He was found guilty by a jury of his peers (other own pant leg at a time human beings) His peers have spoken.

He woke up that day and got into the car with a bunch of his friends KNOWING he was didn’t have valid driver’s license to do so. He KNEW this was an illegal act but did it anyway.

He was showing off to his friends by driving 60+ in a 35, speeding along 170% of the posted limit. When he accelerated to 81 he was going at 231% of the posted limit, well above double.

What killed those innocent people was Shahid’s hubris, a desire to show off, and a complete lack of disregard for laws which he decided didn’t apply to him that day.

I agree the suv driver is probably traumatized for the rest of their life.
Can you imagine trying to get into a car, or even try to walk on the sidewalk after that day?
I probably would have just sit at home, stare at a wall and be scared of every noise
