Do you think teachers would be interested in maybe 1-2 times a week doing some tutoring type sessions this summer for reading/ writing and math? For elementary aged kids? I’m wondering if my kids teachers would be interested in something like this, as a hired tutor type thing. I would love to keep some sort of learning going on. |
I'm a private school teacher who tutors, and now tutors online. It's generally not considered ethical to teach your own students, or students at your own school. However, I am sure there are plenty of teachers from other schools, or ideally other LEAs (e.g. if your kid is in DCPS, then a charter school teacher, or vice versa) who would be interested. Maybe ask your friends with kids in other schools if they have recommendations, and email those teachers.
I'll add that I'm not trying to drum up business for myself, as I do a pretty specialized kind of tutoring. |
I would!
I am hoping to do a lot of online tutoring this summer (not my own students). |
I am looking for this too. Where is a good place to find this kind of person? |
I am a first grade teacher and I would love this. I don't think there is any harm in reaching out to your teacher / school. I know mine keeps a list of teachers on hand (along with their specialty areas) that they send to parents who ask. |
It’s not appropriate (and actually against my contract) to be hired as a private tutor for my students. |
There are a few teachers who have listings on care.com for summer tutoring that I have seen. |
Maybe folks should sign their kids up for virtual summer school with their school. |
Hi! I’m an MCPS teacher that’s lives in Bethesda with a decade of experience in grades 1, 2, and 4. I’ve also tutored nearly 30+ kids in grades 1-9 throughout the school year/summer. I’ve been Zooming with my current clients and so far, it’s been successful for the kids.
If anyone is interested, I can provide my email to send you my resume and references. I am new to DCUM so does anyone know if I can send a personal message to individuals? |
People usually create a burner email and suggest people email them there -- such as ImaTutor @ gmail.com |
MCPS teacher again. I created a burner email: dcmdtutor@gmail.com |
I'm a teacher and wouldn't be interested (because I have young children), but I certainly wouldn't be offended if one of my student's families asked for a tutor rec, and I might be able to give one. |
I’m an mcps teacher (posted below) with a decade of experience. If you’re interested in reaching out, I can send you references and my resume. My email is: dcmdtutor@gmail.com |
I always tutor every summer (because I enjoy it and the money is great), but I'd seriously rather poke my eyes out than do any more distance learning than I absolutely have to. Don't get me wrong, I'm doing everything possible for my students, but once the school year is over? I'm out. I'm sure there'll be plenty of teachers willing to do it though. |
I bet dcps will roll out a virtual summer school |
