Does anyone know what's up with the Bloomingdale's in Friendship Heights?

Anonymous
I went by the Bloomingdale's store in Friendship Heights today, and noticed that the windows and doors are boarded over. At first I thought that it might just be for protection while the store is closed for an indefinite amount of time. Other stores in the neighborhood with their windows and doors covered also had notes informing customers that they're closed due to covid 19 -- and many suggested checking out their websites while the stores are temporarily closed. I didn't see any notes on the doors at Bloomingdale's. Does anyone know if they've closed for good?

No likely Covid closing -it’s a top selling store.

They closed all their stores nationally. It’s likely an insurance requirement that they need to board it up.

I would imagine they are trying to ward off looting.

It’s to stop smash and grabs, which happen in that neighborhood.

I sincerely hope this was sarcastic. Friendship Heights is a paragon of gentrification.

Amid gentrification doesn’t mean what you think it does. Friendship heights has always been wealthy. But if you were referring to the effort to add more high end retail that flopped big time.

Has nothing to do with the neighborhood. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.sandiegouniontribune.com/news/california/story/2020-01-09/83-000-in-jewelry-stolen-from-california-bloomingdales%3F_amp%3Dtrue

I don't think you understand what gentrification is ...

FH/Chevy Chase are and have always been wealthy neighborhoods. And that isn't changing. The high-end retail stores along Wisconsin have always been plagued by smash and grabs to window displays and even "hit and runs" (when thieves run into the store, grab all they can, and run out).

Please just stop throwing around big words lol

What’s the difference between a “smash and grab” and a “hit and run”?

Smash and grabs are when they bust out the windows when establishment is closed, or smash jewelry cases and grab contents.

I was on grand jury for weeks on end, and we had a few robbery cases in Friendship heights. Jewelry stores were a big target at the time. I suspect that hasn't changed. Also not all of the thieves were down-on-their-luck types. Some of the crimes were very sophisticated.

You are an idiot, Saks Gucci boutique was hit for 30k in bags 2018, Saks Jandel multiple times before they closed, Cartier store was hit by a team taking over the store in 2013, those are just some of the big ones.

Yes, they added the street parking along the block with Tiffany et al to make it more difficult for the hit and run type thefts to get away.
