Which grocery store is doing the best job protecting workers and shoppers?

Which grocery store chain seems to be best at being on top of precautions, making people follow through on social distancing, and treating their employees well? Our Harris Teeter seems like a hot mess with no crowd control. I've heard that Trader Joe's is limiting how many people can be inside but that workers complain about cramped, unhealthy conditions behind the scenes.

Whole Foods in my opinion

Although they have not limited who can come in

They have added signs on elevators only two people allowed

The six feet tapes on the registers

Each employee with gloves and mask

Bagged up all loose items (lentils, almond butter)

Also they’ve been pretty stocked with items aside from tp

Giant has new rules starting on Thursday

Limits to Customers in Stores
Although not yet mandated by governments in Virginia, Maryland or DC, as of Thursday, April 9th, we will begin limiting the number of customers in our stores at any given time, reducing our store capacity to 20%. We will have store associates monitoring this and we ask for your help by adhering to this policy change. As such, we encourage our customers to shop with as few family members as possible.

One-Way Directional Signage
We will be putting directional signage in our aisles to better control customer flow and promote social distancing. We ask that you follow the arrows while shopping and be mindful of your distance from our associates who may be working in-aisle to restock shelves.

Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) for Associates
Although PPE is short supply, we have managed to secure plastic face shields for all of our associates, and are in the process of securing additional face masks. We’ve also encouraged associates to wear masks, following recent CDC recommendations.

These new policies and procedures are in addition to a host of changes we have already put into place to improve safety for our associates and customers, including:
Plexiglass shields at our cash registers, pharmacies, and customer service desks
Social distancing markers throughout our stores to encourage customers to stay six feet apart
Increased cleaning and sanitation of “high-touch” areas throughout the stores
Reduced store hours to allow for additional cleaning and associate rest
Special shopping hours for senior citizens and customers with compromised immune systems
“Contactless” delivery through our Giant Delivers service

Was just in Giant this morning and they already had the "one-way" direction arrows for each aisle and were making announcements reminding people to look down and pay attention to the arrows. Most people got it and it really helped.

Costco is great. Limited numbers indoors. 6ft spaces marked with tape. Cashiers behind plexiglass.

Wegmans sucks. They need to start limiting the number in store at a time. They have the same tape on the floor and plexiglass thing, but there are just too many people inside. I’m not going there anymore during this.

Ours has limited the number of people to 70, and I see employees with counters at the entrance and exit. I agree they are the best I've seen. Hand sanitizer and gloves for customers, and all the employees I see have masks and gloves on.

My friend works there packing delivery orders. They just got masks at the end of last week. Still no gloves.

My son has been working at Wegmans for almost 2 years. He and a few coworkers decided after working Sunday that they were taking a break from coming into work. They are not being protected at all. They told their supervisor this is why they were not working, the supervisor said he understood, and HR would call him to talk. HR did call, and had nothing to say except that they will check in again in seven or 10 days.

I’m really disappointed in the way Wegmans has been handling the safety of employees. I don’t understand how they can be so unprepared. They are not even limiting the number of people in the stores. When I went shopping about 10 days ago my son and another employee were standing right next to each other in the cashier line. All they did was wipe down the belts.

Since then I think they have taken a few small measures like trying to get a few plastic shields in place.

This is really disappointing. Wegs used to be one of the best companies in American to work for and was the pride of Rochester, NY.

Maybe they expanded too fast.

I think the all of the stores should have in place:
- Mandatory hand cleaning (hand sanitizer) upon entering store
- All people in store has on some sort of mask
-One touch rule in effect- meaning if you pick something up, you buy it.

All seems pretty much the same to me and my weekly shopping involves hitting Costco, Wegmans, and Lotte. I do have to fill in with Harris Teeter.

I'd day lotte is the most chaotic, but the shoppers there wear masks. Nearly all of them.

I can’t speak to this bc I’ve been to the store 3x in 5 weeks so no point of comparison. Not sure how anyone could speak to this unless they are not doing social distancing

Sounds like they're the only ones cleaning the belts. Why is that? I hate putting my things on a dirty belt.
