Best way to transport puppy -small dog in car

Anonymous
I need to transport puppy to vet and when CV is over will want to bring him to different places with us. He will be about 12lbs when fully grown. I have no idea what the best approach is to get him used to car and what to transport him in. Could I get a soft carrier (that will eventually be used on a plane as well) and fasten it to a car seat belt? Anyone know of a brand that works well if this is ideal? I also want him to get used to going in the car as we plan on bringing him on road trips with us when we can do them again. Thanks.

The best way is in a small crate. I have 2 medium dogs and they go in the cargo area and stay put. They just know it’s their area.

In a car all dogs should be kenneled. They sell them at pet's mart. Kennel in trunk. Less anxiety for dog.

For people who think driving with your dog on your lap, seriously one accident dog is gone.

Some dogs can be trained to sit in back seat even that is not the best idea.

We use these for our dachshunds: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GFB77C3/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Attach one end to the dog's harness and one end in to the seat belt "female" piece (not sure what its called!).

Or, you can buy a harness and seat belt together, which is what we also did: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073RZF1QB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

We put our dog in a harness and then clip a buckle attachment from the harness to the car belt buckle receptor (or whatever it’s called).

For a puppy, I would hold them in your lap. As they get older, they can ride in the passenger seat or back seat or for travel, in a crate.

Sleepypod, works with your car seatbelts. Crash tested. A 12 lb dog could probably go in the large carriers. I have the harnesses for my 20 lb dogs.

My Yorkies are car sick if they can't see where they are going. I did lots of research before buying particular seats - this resource was useful https://redlinetribe.com/best-small-dog-car-seat-carrier/ . Ended up buying the K&H Bucket Booster seats. Fabulous fit and look very comfy. My dogs love them!
