A bill to address immigration - beyond what a simple EO can do - was written and prepared and Trump told the GOP to kill it because he was afraid it would be too much of a win for Biden. There's a meme out there that I can find now, but it's basically the spin cycle for whatever Trump said:

And so on. Until at the end, it's fully been admitted that Trump said it and meant it but it's ok because something, something, no one can take a joke or whatever. Is anyone really paying attention anymore? I used to enjoy the fact checking that one guy - Daniel Dale(?) did, but them it became apparent it was meaningless. I just assume Trump is lying and will do whatever dumb thing immediately pops into his stupid head.
