Interview on Telegram?

Anonymous
I recently received an email, inviting me to an online interview/briefing exercise. It's a job I am interested in, and the email includes some introduction of the company and the role. The company is legitimate.

What's odd is I will need to download Telegram, set up my account using my email and phone number, and add the interviewer in the App. I was also provided an verification code for the interview process.

Does this seem like a scam?

Thanks.

...that is weird. I would be suspicious.

I’m saying this as somebody who uses telegram all the time. There are so many business-oriented services out there, why can’t they use those?

Thanks for sharing your thought. I also noticed an obvious typo in the company website link listed in the email. On the other hand I am desperately in need of a job. Just got laid off

I think it's a scam. I just looked up the phone number and address. The number was reported as Unsafe Caller on a website. The address is wrong as well.

Contact the company and ask them. You need to include some sort of reason that's plausible if this is legit -- you don't want to sound like you think their business practices are whacky! Maybe say something like you've heard recently of cases of scammers impersonating legit companies, and would they mind confirming that Sam Jones who contacted you is really their employee?

Also be sure that evil space aliens or talking stuffed bears aren't part of the deal with Sam Jones

I get a lot of questionable text messages. I also get calls from phone numbers I don't know. I simply ignore all of them. If you're not in my contact list too damn bad. 'Cos I don't text with people I don't know or aren't expecting a call/text from. People who can't be bothered to leave voice mail I just skip. My phone is pretty good at flagging potential scammers too.

I can understand people being in pinch looking for work. Especially during the Pandemic or other times of national crisis. Best to research any job offers or other activities with established websites that track potential or known scams. And also do you research into the company or persons trying to do "business" with you via text.

Hackers love to use tg to recruit for their business. I imagine many fraudsters followed the lead.

I know it's been a little while, but do you still have URL to that site?

Do you the phone number so it can be reported to the FTC?
