Federal Employee health insurance coverage for IUI?

Anonymous
I’m moving over to a federal government job mid year so switching my coverage. I expect to do at part a few cycles if IUIs this year, possibly with a medicated ovulation (Letrozole). I’ve already done most of the pre conception diagnostic tests. Could anyone recommend the best insurance coverage? I love in DC.

I don't know about DC, but in NOVA only Kaiser and CareFirst cover IUI at 50%. CareFirst is only available in certain zip codes though.

OP here, to clarify I work in Virginia and live in DC... I thought it follows where you live but I could be wrong

What clinic are you at? Look at the CareFirst plan. It's great coverage but very expensive and Dominion is out of network. I still chose Dominion anyway even with the plan, so I had to pay out of.network deductible. It was still well worth it because the out of pocket max is low.

I’m at Columbia, I’ll check that. Thank you!

I believe you qualify for CareFirst if you work or live in one of the areas that are eligible. Check the plan brochure on OPM’s web site. All of DC might be eligible, I am not sure. Unfortunately, I had to rule it out because I live and work outside of their area.

With Kaiser, IUIs are covered at 50% but all the initial lab work and testing like the HSG has to be through them. They also only refer to Shady Grove Fertility.

Kaiser makes you do everything through their small network right?

The initial testing yes. But once that's done they give you a referral to Shady Grove Fertility. I'm pretty sure Kaiser only covers IUIs with them though.
