Infants, Toddlers, & Preschoolers
| Forgive my stupidity... My almost 3.5 year old is tall and skinny, but is longer in the torso with shorter legs. He fits very well in 3T pants in almost every brand, but is starting to outgrow 3T tops lengthwise (not necessarily width-wise). What is the difference between size 4T and size 4? Is one better for a slimmer kid? |
| If a store carries both, then 4T is usually smaller than 4. |
| I've found them to be the same. |
| 4T is smaller. For instance, Old Navy carries 4T while gap carries 4 years. You'll find a big difference between the two. I have a tall, skinny 2 year old who fits into 3T but not 3 years. In general though, the tags at individual stores should list the height/weight under the size and that's the most helpful (or on a website always click on the size chart). |

I've read that 4 is thinner than 4T because the "toddler" implies that diapers are still being worn.
Anyway, all of this is moot because even within the same brand sizes can differ. I'm guessing that tops are going to be the same, and since you have a skinny boy (as I do), just look for pants that have adjustable waists. |
This is what I was told at Gymboree. But shirts are the same. |
| 4T is larger in the bum for a diaper. |
Ditto about Gymboree. |
