Just curious - what do you consider 'close in age'?

Anonymous
Obviously it doesn't really matter but out of curiosity, what do you consider close in age for kids? Like if they are one year apart, that is obviously close in age. If they are 5+ years apart, they are obviously not. But where is the line? Is a 2 year gap in age? 2.5? 3? 3.5?

In your humblest of opinions of course

I think 2 is definitely close in age. I think 3 is borderline. To me the line is somewhere around there (maybe 2.5?)

Mine are 2 years, 5 months apart. At their current ages (3.75 and 18 months) they don't feel close in age to me. But I think once they are 10 and 8 they will feel close in age.

I think 20 months or under. My 2 are 15 months and they are close, but friends who have spacing closer to 2 years doesn't seem to be the same.

My instinct would be under 2 years apart; that said I have 2 boys 2.5 years apart and they're best buds and look VERY much alike (older one is little, younger one is big etc).

I think you're right. There's close (2.5 and under), a middle sized gap (2.5-4 probably), and a big gap (4+). If we end up with a second, which isn't looking likely, we'll be at 4.5+ years and I'm mentally past the point of them being close in age. I think there's another line where it's more like having two only children (instead of two, but both always being at different stages) and I'm not sure where that is...6.5-7 years maybe?

How old are they now? That may change.

Agree with the others who said 2 to 2.5 years.

Mine are 22 months apart. I do consider that to be close in age. 2.5 years or less sounds right to me.

Less than 24 months

Now that my kids are in school, I think siblings are close in age if they are only 1 or 2 grades apart.

Oh this is a good point. I think grades matter maybe even more than ages. So 2.5 years but 2 grades apart = close in age, 2.5 but 3 grades apart = not close in age?

Yeah this doesn't really make sense bc with cutoffs it can be either.

Any gap 2 years or less.

My first two are 18mo apart = definitely close in age

the gap between 2 and 3 is 2y8mo

the gap between 1 and 3 is 4y3mo. they are all two grades apart in school.

As a sibling set they feel/seem close in age.
