What is the white powdery substance under bathroom sink?

| I noticed this white powdery substance shedding inside bathroom vanity cabinets . The cabinets are oak and counter top builder grade double sink cheap cultured marble. The the inside of top drawer has this powdery stuff and under sink as well . How can I stop it? Someone suggested to spray hairspray. But why is it shedding and what is it ? It’s getting on my personal items . I want to be able to use all drawers . |

| OP here the substance is backing of cultured marble countertop . It just not staying on but shedding . Anyone know how to seal it without hairspray ? |

| Is there movement of the bottom of vanity top against the top of vanity? Maybe the movement is rubbing off some of the bottom of the vanity top, so it falls into your drawers. |

I would think any kind of spray sealer would work. Polyurethane? KILZ? |

| It sounds like efflorescence. Don't use hairspray, it won't stop the problem. Google how to remove efflorescence from marble. |

All the rooms with this cultured marble top this white substance since we built house from the beginning but now I want to get rid off it. I normally just Shioe once a week inside cabinets . But from quick google search not sure if efllorescense. |

| I’m having the same issue. It is coming from the sink underside. It’s not cocaine or construction dust or from movement of the countertop. It’s everywhere every time you shut a door or drawer. I don’t advise snorting any of this as it looks like silica dust. I’m going to try clear car enamel in a spot to see if it creates a deadly fume or fixes the problem |
