Hi, we are looking into the MD Exchange insurance with CareFirst HMO Gold. We will also need PGD due to being carriers of a recessive genetic disease (25% chance of passing it on). Has anyone successfully gotten CareFirst to cover this? If so, are there any strings attached, what were the copays or costs associated with it, and did it also cover freezing and thawing? Thanks!
hi i have blue preferred ppo hsa silver 3000 vision plus . it covers ivf cost but pgd testing and storage is out of pocket
I had the same question and spoke with someone at Natera. She said CareFirst usually does cover the biopsy, probe creation and testing. However, the labwork is out of network because CareFirst is an HMO (unless you get the super expensive Gold plan). So you have to apply for a waiver with CareFirst to get an exception, since LabCorp won't do this type of testing. So essentially you have to pay out of pocket, then get reimbursed by CareFirst once they approve the waiver. You have to go through this process each time you do a round of testing. This is for PGD only; PGT is not covered.
Sorry, to clarify, CareFirst is an HMO unless you get the super expensive PPO versions of the plan.
