travel with infant carseat

Anonymous
I'm bringing my six-month old on his first flight next week and will bring his carseat. I'm thinking of not bringing the base to cut down on the travel load. What have others done?

Don't bring the base...it's not necessary and so much easier.

Just make sure the infant carseat is FAA approved. I traveled with my peg perego infant carrier (about 3 yrs old) and it wasn't approved and there was no way to strap it into the plane seat.

The first time I travelled with my baby, I took the base. It was unnecessary and just extra hassle. I have now made several trips with just the car seat (and stroller) and it was absolutely 100% fine.

If you don't bring the base what do you do when you get to your destination and you have a rental car?

You can run the seatbelt over the infant seat--there are notches where the belt goes. At least Graco seats are that way. Look in the manual for instructions.

Also, trying to install the base in a rental car can be its own headache. The rental folks WILL NOT HELP.
