4 month old rocks back and forth while sitting - normal?

Anonymous
When sitting on my knee my 4 month old DD moves her upper body back and forth - it's almost as if she is rocking herself. I figure that she is just leaning how to move her body. Is this normal?

Does she do it constantly? My baby does that sometimes, and even I do that sometimes, when she seems to be feeling happy. Your baby may just like the extra motion, so unless it's constant, I wouldn't worry about it. Maybe just mention it to the peditrician next time you're there.

Mine does something similar, though it's more squirming than rocking. I had assumed she's just learning to balance/control muscles and that it's part of her natural development and strengthening of those muscles that will help her sit up on her own before too long.

Normal, and if they keep doing it through the years it has been connected to higher IQ scores, congrats

I don't know if it's normal, but my 4 month old baby does the same thing and I am not worried at all.
