I’m curious to hear what time other elementary schools’ open in the morning. I know there are two tiers of starting times in MCPS - one at 9am and one at 9:25am. Our school is in the later tier and and our doors open at 9:10am, so 15 minutes before school starts.
|
| Ours starts at 9am and doors open at 8:45. They ask us to not have children arrive outside before 8:40. |
| Tier 1, bell rings at 8:40 and students are allowed into the building, 20 minutes before school starts. We also have universal breakfast, so students eat when they get to their classrooms. That may account for the extra 5 minutes. |
| 8:45 school starts at 9 |
| Doors open at 9:05, school starts at 9:25 |
| Doors open at 8.40. Kids can wait in the halls 8.40-8.50. Classroom doors open at 8.50. Day starts at 9. |
| 9:10, school starts at 9:25. |
| 9:10 |
| 8:35am, school starts at 9am. |
Same as our school. No universal breakfast. |

MCPS Elem. 9.25 start time. Doors open for the parent drop off kids at 9.20.
We are at a free breakfast school so all the kids get a breakfast in the classroom from 9.25-9.35 For those that have doors open 10 or more mins before start time where do the kids go for that time? |
Kindergarteners wait in the all purpose room or gym (I forget which one) until their teachers walk them to their classrooms. Other staff members, who aren’t home room teachers, supervise them. All other students line up outside their home room classrooms and socialize, without supervision, until their classrooms open — including students who have to wait outdoors for their classroom to open because their home room is a portable. There’s a wooden carport-type structure so the kids are covered if it’s raining. |
They line up in the hallway outside their classrooms. |
We're in HCPS. We have the same as the above. Children above 2nd grade can wait before the doors open. The school asks us not to leave any children K-2 outside the school unattended before the doors open. |
