How early can you see heartbeat?

Anonymous
What's the earliest you can do a sono and see a heartbeat? And if you go as early as 6 weeks, is it possible everything is fine but you don't see a heartbeat?

Saw one at 5w5d

The doctor's did not want to schedule my sonogram until 8 weeks for that very reason. I think I remember that before 7 weeks its hit or miss what you'll see.

Saw one at 6w1d, was told it was borderline low, so freaked for two weeks. Had a second sonogram at 7w6d, and it was much stronger, in the normal range. I think the early sonos are hit or miss.

My doc said that at 6 weeks they can usually see the heartbeat about 50% of the time. They should definitely see a heartbeat by 7 1/2 weeks. These numbers are based on actual dates, so if you are just estimating by you LMP or when you think you ovulated, there could be a few weeks difference.
