always fall off from bed all the time

Anonymous
My 4 year old son falls off from sleeping on his full size spring mattress a few times every week that I have placed on hardwood floor. I didn't measure it, but it is about 10-15 inches high. He rolls around & sleeps everywhere all the time during nighttime sleep, and I have placed the mattress against the corner & a rug on the side of his bed. I have been hesitating to get him a bed frame & others because of the way he sleeps. Just like yesterday night, I hear him falling off from the bed 3 times (big bang) across the room, and sometimes he gets pull to go to bed and sometimes he just lays flat on the floor.

Is he going to sleep like that for the next few years? He seems to have no problem sleeping within his mat or clot during the daycare afternoon nap. He goes to bed right after he gets a nightime warm bath. He does not have heavy breathing at night, and no snoring. Anyone thinks that maybe I should get him a sleep study?

Correction: sometimes he gets up & climb back to bed

No sleep study. I would just try putting a body pillow or pool noodle under the fitted sheet on the side of the bed he rolls off.

Can you try rolling up a blanket an putting it under the fitted sheet along the edge of the mattress to create a bumper of sorts? We did this for our kids when they transitioned to a twin bed and it kept them on the bed 90% of the time. The great thing about this method rather than a rail is that you can do it in any bed (hotel, grandma's house, etc)

We're still using a rail for our 5.5 year old for the same reason. But plan to take it off soon and put a "crash pad" (old crib mattress) next to the bed so he can hopefully learn to stay in. He's always moved around a lot when sleeping.

I think when our younger one is ready for a bed we'll do without the frame for a while, based on our experience with the older one. Just a mattress on the floor for her.

one of my kids did this too. its okay. just an active sleeper. put some pillows on the floor and dont worry about it. ask your pediatirican next time you are there if its worrying you so mych

We still use a rail for my almost 8 yo. She’s a super active sleeper, rolls/moves everywhere.

We never used rails or put the mattress on the floor. Somehow they figured it out.

OP here. I will put some pillows & blankets around the bed. Thanks.

Yep. +1

Some people are just active sleepers. Sometimes I wake up hanging off the edge of the bed. If I were younger I’m sure I would fall out. I fell out a lot as a child. Just get a rail or put pillows along the edge to try to prevent falls.
