I am surprised that she left NBC for FOX. Isn't NBC4 much more popular than FOX5?

Sure it’s about money.

Man, I have huge crush on her.

Clear as day she got laid off at the end of year. Maybe poor performance. But that 'spending time with family' drivel? Yeah, no.

Shows at 4 and 7 seems to go against the "spending time with family" story that was out earlier this year. Not much time for her three kids with that schedule. Does her husband still live in South Carolina?

Preparing for the heat I will take for saying that I have little respect for parents like these.

She may not have a choice. You want to work - you have to take the slots given you. As I said in the other thread, if she was willing to move - a lot more opportunities for flexible slots and great networks would open up to her. But she stayed - probably for her kids, since her husband's in SC its not like she stayed here for him.

I get that if she's taking second shift at the hospital or the factory and needs to feed the kids because no one else can. That's not the case here. She has three kids under 7 (or so -- oldest will be in third grade next year). Don't you think they'd rather see their parents on a regular basis somewhere other than the DC metro area, instead of really not seeing them much at all throughout the week?

I know I likely sound judgmental and terrible. But I just don't get these kinds of decisions. They seem incredibly narcissistic to me.

See their parents throughout the week? Don't you get that she's effectively a single mom here? She and her husband are paying for homes in two states plus whatever costs are associated with his dental practice. She has to work in order to stay here just to pay for the cost of living, so she took what was offered to make it work.

I mean...it would make sense for her to leave DC with the kids and move down to the Carolinas were his practice is since he can't up and move, but she didn't do that. Personally I'm not sure why two people stay married in such a circumstance but TETO.

I like her, but I always wondered why they continued living in separate states. Clearly it was so she could focus on her career and also because she seems to have all of her family nearby helping her out. Good for them for making it work.

I have a friend who is a news anchor who is on air at similar times here in DC. He actually spends more time with his kids than I do with a typical 9-5 job which makes before/aftercare necessary. He gets them ready for school every morning, does the drop offs, volunteers often at school and has the kids for most of the day when there is no school. They have a part time babysitter to bridge the gap between when the kids get home and when mom comes home from work.

So...holiday weeks and the random snow days we get every 2 years? Summer too I guess?

I also think she doesn’t want to move because her family is here in the area.

I do think it’s a step down though for her to leave NBC4.

She got to what best for her and Family. The best of business is to mind your business.

Handle your own business.

We have random day off and snow days ALL THE TIME. Where do you live where the kids go to school on a consistent basis? Definitely not MoCo.

No way someone goes from the DC market to the market in another state unless it's NY or CA and even then, one of the larger city news orgs. DC to SC is a big-ass downgrade for someone at her stage in her career. She'd be a fool to do that.

The flow is: small town > larger town, usually capital, in that state > bigger state market like phoenix/atlanta/boston/houston > mid-range markets like philly/dc/dallas > the big 3 of ny/los angeles/chicago > national news

I don't see how her situation is any different than the hundreds of men and women who commute to Boston/NYC and live there through the week and only come home on the weekends.
