you literally picked the two worst places in FL to visit so you shouldn't write the whole state off based on that!

dp. I hated all of FL, from the Keys to Palm Beach.

FL was the worse vacation I've ever had. I was miserable and didn't enjoy any of the area. Even the beaches sucked because of all the sargassum seaweed.

I have been to the Caribbean (including going through a hurricane), Europe, Asia, and several states. FL was the worst. Never going there again unless I absolutely have to.

That isn't 'all' of Florida. I live in Florida and haven't even been to those places. And I doubt that every single beach you went to happened to have sargassum at that exact moment-it's more likely something you read about and internalized because of your misery.

No, we spent a week in FL, started in the Keys, stayed in various places going up north all the way to Palm Beach. They *all* had terrible sargassum seaweed issues.

google the pictures of massive seaweeds along the Atlantic coast. It was huge and stinky. They tried to clean it up in the morning, but it was so massive they couldn't keep up with it.

Never again will I go to FL, at least from spring to fall. Also, I didn't find most of FL all that interesting. I wouldn't mind spending a bit more time in Key West, but everywhere else was blah.

I’ve never been to Savannah and do want to visit for the food and history.

I have been in other parts of the South and find plantation tours strange- they often gloss over the slavery and indentured servants part of the operation.

Another big attraction in the South that didn’t impress me was Biltmore Estate. IMHO, so tacky and gaudy. You really have to think a lot of yourself to build such an excessively obscene estate. Biltmore, was part of our trip to the Carolina Smokies, which is a lovely area.

100%. I went to oak alley and they kept talking about how great the slave owners were, how much they loved each other (apparently he built the house extra low bc wife was short??) and how they ‘allowed’ the slaves to ‘sign on’ for employed work after slavery was abolished. They still lived in slave quarters and were paid almost nothing, but good for the slave owners!!!

How long ago did you visit and where? The plantations on River Road in Louisiana, at least, have huge educational and tribute sections on slavery.

Curious about your (or anyone's) poor experience with Taiwan. It's a place I've wanted to go because of the lush mountain scenery and the food.

I loved Taipei so I’m curious as well. It was stunning and the food was great!

Hmm I spent a fair amount of time in and loved the first 3 places on your list so I’m going to assume we have very different tastes.

I've been to Taiwan about...6 or 7 times, primarliy for work, but I really like it. I always thought I should drag my family there. The only thing against it is the extraordinarily long flight from DC.

Brooklin Maine. Thought it would be idyllic- we rented a nice cabin with a private beach and had our own kayaks and SUPs, but i really hated it. An hour to the nearest grocery store, restaurants only open Wednesday- Saturday, and you had to enter a lottery for a chance to order a pizza at the one pizza place. Was the one time in my life I wanted to cut a vacation short.

I don’t love Florida, though the Keys and parts of the Gulf are really nice, but it’s silly to say “never again” because of an abundance of seaweed. The coast isn’t Disney World or a water park. Coastlines are always changing- waves, wind, ocean creatures, and seaweed are always coming and going. I’ve been to Hatteras when the water is almost as blue and clean as the Caribbean. The next day the wind can change directions and the clean blue sea is a muddy green and brown. The water isn’t dirty, rather the waves and wind are churning up the sea floor.
