Cost of a car charging station at home?

Anonymous
The numbers on the internet seem to be all over the place. Can anyone give me an idea of how much it is to install a car charger in your home garage?

Depends a lot on your electrical panel -- how far it is from your garage, and if it has the extra capacity for another circuit.

Note MD (via Pepco,I think) provides a tax credit for this, so look into that.

Like for charging your Prius?

We have regular power outlets in the garage where are extra fridge is plugged in. Our prius charger cable is also plugged in there. We have a hook on the side wall to hand the handle of the charger but that is all.

It would have to be a dedicated circuit, for sure, which would also be required for a fridge.

+1. Ours was all the way on the other side of the house and cost $700.

Thanks for the help! The panel is in the garage so right next to the unit - within 2 feet probably. How much is the charging unit itself?

I've always been curious - what does this do to your electric bill and are there tax subsidies to offset this?
