Rules Regarding Recruiting Players from Other Clubs

Are there actual written rules somewhere addressing coaches reaching out to players on other teams at the high school level? Or does it come down to professional ethics? If so, what is the conventional view? Is it ever okay?

Some leagues have rules that are anti poaching rules within the league but no such rules exist across leagues.

It gets murkier when clubs have teams registered in multiple leagues but CCL is not obliged to follow a NPL rule.

Prior posters are correct. Rules are within leagues and rostering systems, not across them. Rules apply to one seasonal year only, not across seasonal years. Every summer rosters are reset and you can do whatever you want, as it should be. No one should have a monopoly or stranglehold on where a kid or their family plays and the open competition amongst clubs and coaches is good, even if it seems unfair to the coach/club being "poached" from. Do your job well and players won't leave, except for those wanting and good enough to go to DA or ECNL levels. Then, be happy about their choice as you helped get them to that level, which is your job … to teach soccer and make the kids better players and competitors.

None of the local leagues allow poaching within the league. It's gets a bit weird because of the state registration. All bets are off when it comes to tryouts, coaches reach out all the time.

As a general rule it is OK to recruit from other clubs, but it is not OK for them to recruit from your club.

Only BRYC if the director is approaching players on the field and families at their vehicles.

Recruiting happens at every age and every club. Arlington recruit Everyones kids on the boys side, Loudoun Boys recruit from BRYC, BRYC recruit from SYA. On the girls FCV recruit from Loudoun and many other clubs. McLean have always recruited hard in older age groups, BRYC has started to recruit hard in those age groups too.

Recruiting is part of the game, the better clubs recruit players. The weaker ones lose players.

BRYC has had their top dogs out in full effort recruiting for their 07s next year. I know of a few Arlington families being courted.

Natural cycle of soccer, a kid may go from
FPYC u8-12 to SYA 12-14 to BRYC 15-17 to DC United 18-19
To college.

Being recruited to each of those clubs.

On the girls side it is probably the same, the ECNL/DA clubs will be at the top recruiting from smaller clubs or eachother depending who is strongest in certain age groups.

All seems correct until BRYC to DC United. Never have I seen any BRYC kid good enough to make that jump. Maybe Arlington or Mclean is closer to the truth.

True. Don’t tell the Welsh family that though.

I wonder if Barcelona recruits youth players, I wonder if the clubs they take players from recruit players, and the clubs they got them from probably sound just like the whining parents complaining about recruiting.
