My daughter is 6mo old and a friend, whose son is about to turn 2, wants us to consider a nanny share. Everyone I know who has done a nanny share has done it with a baby around the same age. I'm open to the idea but wondering if it's better to try to find a family with a baby her age. Thoughts? |
Sure, why not. It’s like you daughter get a de facto older sibling during the day.My family was successfully in a nanny share for four years. More important issues to consider is how well your parenting styles mesh with the nanny AND the other family. |
I would do it if mine were the younger kid--I think it's great developmentally. We did it where ours was the older kid, and that was not great. If I were you, my biggest concern would be whether the other family will be happy and will want to back out down the road. |
You should be more concerned if the sitter can make it a positive experience for both children. |
It all depends on how good the nanny is. Can she keep both children engaged? |
Logistically you have one kid who naps once a day and one who naps twice. I think it somewhat depends on the nanny, it could be an advantage or it could be a disadvantage. |
The older child’s activities will be guided by your child’s nap schedule. Certainly doable, most sibling are around that age gap, but not ideal. |
Why don’t most parents here understand this simple fact? |
I wouldn't do a share with a friend, nor one with that big of an age gap. |
I would want parenting philosophies to line up more than i care about the age difference so yes i would. |
Maybe and only if mine was the younger child. |
Not OP, but considering a share. What kinds of parenting philosophies? |
screen time, outside time, openness about different kinds of families, different religions, do kids need to be held if crying, do kids need to sleep in crib or is stroller ok, what kind of food, if one were allowed processed junk and the other family was all organic this wouldnt work......stuff like that. I would this to be more in align than the age of the kids. |
