Holy hell - this sucks. I think I have a mild case of the flu. Or a really really bad cold. I went to the doctor but they just gave me a decongestant and cough suppressant. I am coughing up a lung and feel a mix of feverish and cold. I have a 2 and 4 year old that I picked up from daycare and fed. Dh is headed home early to help with bedtime so I can go to sleep but I need to wait until he gets home before I can pass out. Kids are watching tv and eating dinner in front of the tv while I sit on the couch and hope I don’t pass out from the excessive meds I am on. This is the first time I have ever gotten really sick with kids. Wow this sucks. |
It gets much better once the youngest is about 4. Until then, hang in there. |
Oh, I am sorry, OP.
I always find that Claratin helps dry me up, if you think your doctor would be OK with that. When your 2yo is 4 or even 3, this will all get better. Hang in there! |
As a single mom, I sure know what you are talking about! |
Yes, it is the worst. |
It sucks! At least you are not SAH right? That’s the WORST. (At least for me it was). Now I just drop off the kid to preschool and take a sick day, which is soooo nice. Lots of TV and chicken nuggets to the rescue. |
I have 3 year old twins and pneumonia. Feel you. |
I thought it was bad when my kid was sick and I was sick. Nope—it’s worse when they are healthy and you want to die.
It’s a whole other circle of hell when both DH and I are sick and DS is healthy and wants to play. From 6mo to 2yo was the absolute worst with a different illness every 4-6 weeks. Now my kid is Typhoid Mary; he doesn’t get sick but I catch every bug going around his day care. |
The first time I got sick with toddler twins was when the reality of being a mom hit me. When you’re really sick and what you need to do is sleep and you can’t... it’s like a form of torture. So OP- I totally understand you!! |
Or, your husband stays home and deals with everything and takes care of you, which makes him appreciate what you do even more. 2nd, just give them unlimited tv and tablet and throw some food at them. They will be ok till you feel better. |
Agreed 100%! My child was diagnosed with type I diabetes last year and now, to add to that fun, every illness is now a life threatening emergency. Just last month we both had flu. Thankfully, it did not require a hospital visit. |
We are dealing with that now. Either DD doesn't get sick at all, or she gets a very mild case of the bug du jour, and DH and I are both slammed by it. Last summer, she caught a VERY mild case of HFM and passed it along to us. Short of a bad case of the flu in college, that's the sickest I've ever felt in my life. DH was out of work for a full week. And, no, we aren't wimps. The worst was when she brought home norovirus. One episode of vomiting for her; 3 days of complete misery for us. Fortunately, that was over a long weekend! |
Try doing it as a single parent. |
Yep. And it tends to hit when my husband is on work travel. Super not fun. |
It sucks so much. Luckily I'm feeling a little better now that my oldest is 3. The prior winters were soooo awful. I think DH and I now have been through virus hell week and our immunity is strengthened. I never, ever got sick before having kids. I actually used to think I was healthy... |
