why are schools open on Easter Monday?

PWCS schools are open on Easter Monday? When was the last time this happened?

Because Easter Monday isn't a holiday, nor is it even religious? Good Friday is the religious holiday if they wanted to pick one

FCPS were open last year and this year. Why would they be closed? It is not a holiday. I kind of wish that spring break fell the weekend starting on Easter, I don't get why they have it the week before, but that is how it is.

Be glad you aren't in MD, where it's a mandatory holiday.

Catholic schools are off . We have spring break the week after Easter.

What's Easter Monday? That doesn't even vaguely sound like a legit holiday.

Because Easter is on Sunday and "Easter Monday" isn't something that the US regularly observes. As a PP noted Good Friday used to be the holiday, but it's tough to do every holiday for every religion now so unless it falls on a break there isn't a reason to close school.

Not all catholic schools are off as Easter Monday isn’t a holiday

There are more irate posts from other years, too, if you want some commiseration from Easters past.

Easter Monday is a big holiday in DC. Fairfax usually gets it off.

It's all part of the war on God-fearing Christians. Next thing you know, they won't let schools close for two weeks surrounding Christmas Day!
