FCPS Boundary Review Updates

Agree. They are going to have to throw out everything they were spitballing on the western half of the county and re-assess.

But why are they even doing this boundary adjustment? I was at a swim meet this morning and the pool we were swimming against is located smack in the middle of the Annandale High School boundaries. It was the last home meet, so they honored the two seniors on the team. One graduated from Woodson High School and one from Lake Braddock. Most kids join the NVSL team closest to their house, so why is it that two kids on a team located near Annandale High School did not go there? Just get rid of all of the loopholes for kids to leave their zoned high school.

Not completely uncommon if you are at a high division team. But I have had the same thoughts if we were to get moved. We swim in West Springfield and swim against other WS pools and the kids all know each other from WS. If we get moved to SC our kids won’t have that connection on our team anymore which is a bummer (on top of all of the other frustrations with this process).

Some of the teams are HOA or neighborhood-only teams. So all the kids of course are zoned to attend the same high school....and if they are all at different high schools, it would be a bit odd.

Everyone seems pretty unhappy about possible downhill effects from KAA, eg their kids being switched from one existing school to another.

I'm quite happy about the possible downhill effect of KAA making my child's school less overcrowded.

Hahaha. You just proved pp's point. Fine to move Other People's Kids around to improve your kid's situation but of course it doesn't even occur to you that your precious Larlo might be moved elsewhere to benefit someone else.

Anything could happen. We all know FCPS and SB have priorities and motivations that often don't match with what families want.

PP's point was, "Everyone seems pretty unhappy about possible downhill effects from KAA." I directly refuted that point. PP has a habit of falsely declaring "everyone" feels a certain way. The truth is that most of the families not impacted won't care at all, and even fewer of the majority of people who don't have children at the school. Then there are some like me, happy to not be impacted while also happy that something was done to alleviate the overcrowding other than park another couple trailers wherever they can squeeze them in around the school building.

Um. You have no idea if your kid will be moved to another school, to KAA or not. That's the point. If you are zoned for Chantilly, your kid could be moved.

DP. Textbook definition of selfish. I truly hope that your kids get moved.

It is wild to me that Chantilly parents are so oblivious to the consequences 800 open seats at the school next door could have on their kid's school assignment. No one knows what the SB might do.

Every single Chantilly-zoned ES is closer to Westfield than any other elementary school. (If they are happy to be rezoned, great.)

Greenbriar East, Greenbriar West, Brookfield, and Poplar Tree are 100% guaranteed to not move out of Chantilly. 100%

What makes you think they were transfers? Lake Braddock and Woodson border Annandale HS. It isn’t inconceivable that neighborhoods near the edge of the boundaries don’t use Annandale pools. In our Marshall neighborhood, many families are members of McLean pools. The pools in the Marshall zone are not as easy to get to.

You have no idea what the SB will do
Those schools are the closest schools to Westfield, which is predicted to have the most open seats.

What nonsense! Nothing is guaranteed. If Westfield has a thousand open seats and CHS is overcrowded, of course the SB will move a school ADJACENT to the Westfield boundary.

Yep, so selfish of me to want my children to not attend a school at over 100% of capacity when I live in one of the wealthiest counties in the country who can afford new facilities.

No worries! There will be plenty of space right next door at Westfield.

Oak Hill would take ~400 kids out of Chantilly, plus if they have that Cub Run neighborhood near Wegmans go to Westfield, that would take Chantilly to under 2500 kids. I seriously doubt they take another 400 kids (another full elementary) out of there.
