My kids did swim team for past few summers but we are skipping this year.
Think they will do camp for 4-5 weeks, vacation for 2-3 weeks and just stay home the rest. |
I think is really for SAHMs, no? And I think there is a thread on summer schedules. Working parents need care every week |
I think the age of the kids matters here. |

8 weeks of camp, 4 weeks off but not consecutively
My kids LOVE camps more than most other kids and we don’t have money for a big family vacation this summer. We will do weekend trips and visit grandparents but nothing big. |
3 weeks vacation: 1 staycation in July and 2 away at the end of August. The rest is for camps. We both work full-time. Kids from 5 and up. Kinda wish they could be in the same place, but one keeps getting in troubles so we have to divide and conquer (and rush from one place to the next..) |
Two working parents, two kids. Usually 2-weeks vacation, stay at home last week of the summer while DH and I take turns WAH. Rest of summer in camps and not usually in the same place since they have polar-opposite interests. |
8 weeks of camp. Two weeks off . |
Nonsense. You don't get any vacation time? DH gets 5 weeks and I get 5 weeks. |
Do you take it all in the summer? I would love that. But realistically I take two weeks in the summer, one winter break, one spring break and one random days off throughout the year. Anyway my spouse is a teacher - so kids are doing swim team. About 3 weeks of camp. And two weeks of vacation. |
Most of the summer is at camps except four weeks: Two weeks of family vacation (one at the beach and one visiting family in a lake area), one week with the grandparents for "cousin camp," and the last week of summer in August parents will work from home/babysitter so the kids can just chill out and do whatever they want before school begins. |

Sure but not all of that has to be camp. Babysitters exist and are used by some of us WOHP households too to make things work. My kids are NOT big camp fans and really enjoy the more lazy type of summer weeks that I used to have as a kid (teacher mom) so we use a sitter for those weeks to sprinkle in some calmer days. |
We take three weeks each in summer. One we take at the same time for vacation/ travel. So that leaves 5 weeks we don’t need camps. |
