Just like every parent thinks their child is beautiful - do all parents find their children funny? I have two - one who is almost 4 and one is almost 2. They both seem to have great senses of humor. I laugh constantly at the way they see the world, ask questions and laugh at everything . Their father and I are both on the playful/funny/not too serious side so I imagine its possible but I also wonder if its just us finding their behaviors funny/endearing because they are ours?
Do you have a serious child that was serious even at 2, 3 and 4? Or do you have children who were funny as toddlers that became more serious? They are who are they are and as long as they are kind and compassionate humans, I have no complaints but I am interested in what is parental bias or if funny babies/toddlers are the norm? |
Yes, their points of view are basically always funny. That's why books/shows like 'kids say the craziest things' and those memes about kid drawings etc exist. |
Yeah, kids are hilarious. It's not always on purpose, either, which is pretty entertaining in itself. |
I have a super serious 3 year old with frequent observations that are funny. She HATES when we laugh and says that she's not funny and she's not trying to be funny.
The other day she was talking to her broccoli... DD: "I have to eat you." Broccoli: "Please don't eat me! I have a family!" So even though she doesn't want to be funny, she's legit funny. So I'll trend towards the idea that all kids are funny. |
"kids say the darndest things..."
they look at the world in a different way that is frequently hilarious, I think its pretty universal! |
+1 Kids are hilarious. |
I do think the timing can be amazing. Like sure, all kids say hilarious stuff unintentionally. But sometimes my 4 year old will just display the best comic timing. I love that. |
No. I think most kids have silly moments. But that doesn't mean they are funny. Funny to you is not funny to me. |
I'm in daycare and my favorite age group are the 3s and 4s because they are so funny and engaging. |
Yep. DH and I joke about something they've done every day.
DD (2 yo) was taking too long on the toilet last night and dh asked if she needed help. He told her he had to go to the bathroom. She told him "no, you wait outside. Pee your pants instead!" We laughed and laughed. No clue where she got that from. |
I think most young kids are funny to adults but I think slightly older kids are much funnier. Toddlers and preschoolers do things that are cute-funny, amusing, chuckle-worthy, or things that you want to laugh at but have to stifle because you don't want to encourage it.
But my DS, now 6yo, has gotten really funny in the last year and a half or so. He has great comedic timing and has thrown out some zingers that caused DH and me to literally LOL. |
