Weather should be nice. Somewhere we can park relatively easily and is stroller friendly. We live in McLean but can travel anywhere in DMV. |
I was going to say the zoo, if you are up for an early morning trip and don't mind paying for the parking. If you get there between 9 and 9:30 generally there is still parking available.
Otherwise maybe the Botanical Gardens in Wheaton, that'd be a drive for you though. |
Hidden Oaks Nature Center is a lot of fun.

We just took my toddler and MIL to Huntley Meadows Park in Alexandria.
It's a bit of a drive for you, but it was a very fun and easy loop that goes through the woods and over a boardwalk. Lots of birds and turtles to see. It's stroller friendly, and there's a little visitors center with bathrooms and an area for a picnic. |
Run around Glen Echo and then go to the puppet show for the younger set there? |
I’ve been to the puppet show at Glen Echo many tines and it’s freaky for little kids. My younger kid (age 5) is still fearful of mascots and can’t handle these puppets. That said, my 7.5 yo has always enjoyed it.
Given the predicted weather, the zoo sounds like fun. We also love Lafayette Elem School’s playgrounds combined with a trip to Broad Branch Mkt. You could also do Turtle ? Park ;45th and Van Ness NW DC) with lunch at Millie’s or Pizzera Paradiso (both walking distance) in AU Park/Speing Valley. |
Mt. Vernon - grounds are beautiful and you can stroller all over with a larger wheeled stroller or carry in a back pack.
Clemyjontri Park - go early to get good parking Old Town Alexandria - stroll the waterfront, check out some shops, maybe ride the water taxi, lunch and ice cream on one of the main streets Zoo - I can’t stand the zoo, but that’s just me Udvar Hazy - not outside, but great for kids and grandparents |
Leave the toddler with the grandparent and go to a winery. |
- THIS. To add, the Blossom Kite Festival is Saturday: https://nationalcherryblossomfestival.org/event/blossom-kite-festival/ |
