Pinkeye and sheets

Anonymous
DS had pinkeye last week and when we stopped the medication, it looked like it was starting to return--he had a bit of gunk in his eye again. The doctor recommended doing another week of the medicine (we switched to the ointment from drops because I couldn't get the drops in) but I'm wondering if it started to come back because I may have forgotten to change the sheets? I know I changed them several times, but maybe not the last time as I figured the medication had knocked out the pinkeye for the most part. So how often do you change them when your child has it?

I wash all bedding - sheets, blankets, comforters and stuffed animals a few days after starting the medicine when the gooping and tearing of the eye stops. I also give the house a good wipe down with Clorox wipes including door nobs, light switches, remotes, ipads etc.

My kid has never had it but I’d probably put on a fresh pillow case every night and then wash everything half way through the course of medicine and again at the end. By everything I mean sheets and duvet cover. Not stuffed animals or duvet itself.

Just wanted to say thanks Op for this thread. We are going through the same thing!

Yes, wash everything, keep using ointment/drops, and don't forget about warm compresses (I just use a warm paper towel and replace it if any gunk gets on it).

This is probably overkill but I washed my kids bedding, lovelies, and pillowcases after each time she slept until it wasn’t completely gone. So this was twice a day because she still naps. We have a lot of extra bedding so I’d wait until we had a full load.
