How do you organize kid photos?

Anonymous
My baby is turning one this summer and I have a zillion photos of her, 100% taken on my iPhone. I have them organized through an online system on the cloud, and on my phone, but I'd love to find a good way to physically keep them as well. The problem is since I use my iPhone for photos, half the time the photos are zoomed in or cropped so they don't lend well to being printed and framed or placed in traditional photo albums. The zoomed in photos are often blurry, and anything cropped prints at a funky size, with heads getting cut off etc. how . I'm sure there's a way to correct the settings on my iPhone, but I don't know how to do that. I also know these issues will go away if I used a point and click camera but it's just not feasible in day to day life.

How do you organize your children's pictures other than in the cloud/on your phone? Printed photo books (Snapfish etc)? Do you do so then by year? I would love ideas to help me get organized. I'd hate for her first birthday to pass, then her second and so on with having just a mess of photos in the cloud without a tangible book or other system to physically look through them.

I love mine to my computer as well, and create folders for each year, then month. My goal if eventually a photo book per year, but for now at least they are organized.

I do one Shutterfly album per year and it’s worked well so far

We do yearly calendar and often (not always) photo books on snapfish. I would like to put the movies on dvds or usb, but we have not gotten around to doing that and my kids are 5.5 and 3.5

Same here. But admittedly I didn’t begin the process until I broke my foot and was confined to the top floor of the house. Then I had plenty of time to make Shutterfly albums!

My kids like old school photo albums. Tactile and fun to leaf through. Digital stuff comes and goes. My cloud backup provider Acronis just lost bunch of files. Nice to have physical backups.

This looks great, but I save tons of stuff to my Favorites that aren’t related. Can you designate a certain photo folder on your phone? Have you ever had issues with image quality with these printed from your phone?

I’m a PP. Our Shutterfly albums are hard copy...but a lot slimmer than those old boat-anchor-type albums!

Thank you everyone from OP. It looks like the photo books are the way to go, maybe by year. I appreciate your input!

Can you make photo books like this from your mobile phone or do you have to upload pictures first to a website?

On the first of every month, I copy photos from iPhoto to a folder titled for the previous month. “January 2019.”

Then, I load those photos to Shutterfly with an album of the same name.

Then, I pick the ones I want in the album. I cannot remember the max number of pages for a Shutterfly book off the top of my head. But I divided it by 12, so I know that I have about six pages per month. So, for the previous month I look at the photos and dump them into the book, limiting myself to only the best for the month and what can fit on 6 pages.

At the end of the year, my book is done!

This is a good strategy! I am the PP who asked about uploading photos from your phone. Can you do that direct to snap fish? Or do you have to transfer the photos to a laptop and then upload?

Different poster, but my phone photos upload automatically to the Shutterfly app.
