has this ever happened to anyone? dh made a deposit into our bank account via teller yesterday. it was a check. i saw the deposit when i logged in in the late afternoon. it was listed as pending.
this morning, it has completely disappeared from the account. not listed anywhere, not even listed as pending. weird, right? bank of america..... |
| If it's gone, there has to be an explanation noted as to what happened to it. Check again tomorrow. If you saw it listed yesterday, I don't think you have anything to worry about but hope you kept the deposit receipt. |
| Yup. It's happened to me. It showed up again the next day. |
| op here. that is frustrating because they cashed another check that i didn't even see yesterday and now the account is overdrawn and accruing fees. |

It wasn't one of those checks from Nigeria was it?
I'm just kidding. If you deposited a check the funds are not always available for a few days. They may have found a reason to put a hold on the check. If I ever need the money in right away to avoid over drafts, I cash it at one bank and deposit it at another or into the ATM so the funds go in immediately. What did the bank say when you called? |

I gave up on their stupid deposit rules and moved to another bank. No one knew what the hell was going on when I called customer service.
Example: "OK, so you post deposits same day IF they are made at the walk-up ATM before 4:00? But they take one more business day if they are deposited after 12:00 noon at the drive-up ATM 5 feet away?" I called 4 times back to back and got three different answers. |
Stupid crap like this makes me not even consider banking with BOA. I HATE them with a passion. Some of it has to do with their popularity and the hour long wait every time I went in there, but the rest are their stupid everyday banking rules. I have to use them for two commercial accounts and they are the worst. |
| Think some new laws are coming into effect soon to clamp down on the methods used by banks to get more fees from customers who overdraw accounts. Like they won't be able to process a larger withdrawal ahead of a smaller withdrawal with an earlier post date so the bigger amount depletes funds in the account faster. |
They're trying to pass something, but I'm not holding out hope. Banks rely on overdraft money so much now that they said 2000 banks and 1000 credit unions would close within two years of passing such a bill. The simple fact that they budget in billions in overdraft fees tells you something is clearly VERY wrong with the banking system. I just opened a new account and I am vigilant about using the register to keep track. I will no longer contribute to a banks overdraft budget. |

op here. i think they are up to something because it seems like they've ordered the purchases in order to achieve maximum overdraft fees. grrrr....
can anyone recommend a less shady bank? |
| Hate, hate BOA!!! Every month I would deposit $7200.00 and somehow someone at BOA would process the deposit as $72.00 and it would take about 4-5 days for BOA to fix their mistake. This happened EVERY MONTH. Every month I would have to call customer service and get my deposit straightened out so I was not bouncing my checks due to their error. I finally moved my account to a credit union and have not had a problem since. |
Yep. Almost all banks do this. It works to there advantage big time for people that are struggling. One word of advice if money is very tight is to have separate bank accounts. Overdrafts are almost impossible to avoid if you have two people writing checks and using check cards on an account where funds are very tight. I've learned this the hard way and finally after 5 years we have completely separate accounts. It's SO much easier to keep track and not overdraft this way. |
I recently switched from BOA to Chevy Chase, and am much happier. Down side is that CC is not national (well, now it's been bought by Capitol One, maybe it is ... not sure what's happening with that). Also, CC charges for debit card use, so I stopped using my debit card. But the service is so much better, and the bank is more convenient to both home and work, so I'm happy. BOA was a royal pain when I tried to close my account - it took me 3 tries, they kept "accidentally" reactivating it and each time trying to charge a fee for having too little money in the (closed) account. And they refused to give me a check when I did close it (well, they would have, but only if I paid $20 for the privilege of getting a check for my own funds) - I had to walk out with 2k in my pocket. I banked with BOA for close to 10 years but don't regret the switch at all. |
Yeah, $0.25 every single time you use the debit card. After I realized this I stopped choosing the option "debit" and now I always choose "credit" instead. I pay no fee whatsoever for that and it is basically the same thing. The money is withdrawn from my account immediately like if it was debit. |
I think they do that to encourage you to use the credit option so they can get a credit card transaction fee from the store. |
