Are we idiots to take a road trip...

with a 4 month old? From DC to the Florida Keys, stopping for nights in Savannah and Miami. Any tips? He generally likes the car and is ebf right now. Any tips for being at the beach/pool with a real little one?

Idiots, no. Masochists, yes.

Just kidding. This is a good time to travel..if he likes the car you should be in great shape. Make sure you have lots of shade (or bring a canopy) and expect that everything will take longer than you think it will. Have fun.

I think it might be overly ambitious to plan to get all the way to Savannah on the first night. Breaking the drive into thirds instead of halves might make things a little easier.

We drove from NC to Orlando with our 5 month old last Christmas, stopping around halfway for the night, and it was fine. We made sure that we drove during his nap time, and that we had plenty of entertainment for him in the car. In fact, I sat in the back with him while my husband drove, and vice versa, so that we could read to him and sing him songs when he woke up and that seemed to keep him happy. Oh, and I agree that Savannah may be a bit far for the first stop.

If your little one likes the car, it should be fine, a lot better than when they're older and don't sleep a lot and need to be entertained.

I would definitely consider pumping and giving him a bottle at some point if you don't want to stop every time you think he's hungry (my daughter ate SO frequently at 4 months, I think she was in a growth spurt). Also, make sure you're super hydrated (we tend to not drink as much in cars because we're worried about peeing, but you gotta think about your milk).

have fun!
