I say ath-let-a but know several friends who say ath-leet-a.

It's like athlete, but with an -ah sound at the end. That's how the people who work there pronounce it, so my guess is it's the correct one.

I pronounce it with a long E (ath-LEE-tah) for two reasons:

1. Athlete has a long E.
2. Generally, a vowel followed by a single consonant then another vowel is long.

If they wanted it to have a short E, they should have spelled it Athletta.
