I say ath-let-a but know several friends who say ath-leet-a. |
Your first pronunciation is the correct one. |
pri-?ten(t)-sh?s |
First one. When in doubt, call the store and see what they say when they answer the phone. |
The second one ath - leet- a |
It's like athlete, but with an -ah sound at the end. That's how the people who work there pronounce it, so my guess is it's the correct one. |
The first one. Ath-let-ah. |
Athleta official account retweeted it: https://twitter.com/athleta/status/484766692149436416?lang=en |
No they don’t. |
it like the "let" in lettuce. |
Ath-let-ti-ca
I know its wrong. |
I’ve always pronounced it ath-LAY-tah. |
Ath-let-a sounds so very very stupid. |
I pronounce it with a long E (ath-LEE-tah) for two reasons:
1. Athlete has a long E. 2. Generally, a vowel followed by a single consonant then another vowel is long. If they wanted it to have a short E, they should have spelled it Athletta. |
But is that usually the case when the second vowel is an "a"? Africa strata alpaca candida schemata Nevada stigmata maraca sonata per capita mathematica data can be long "a" or short, depending |
