Help DCUM....We may be moving there but I know absolutely nothing about the area. DH will have a job but I won’t (I’m in Gov’t consulting and just don’t have a network there). We have 2 kids (6 and 7 ) so schools are important. And we’re AA. Any advice or recommendations?

Bring lots and lots of money.

Not many AA in Sunnyvale or most of Silicon Valley. Schools are meh for the amount of money you will be spending on housing.

But the weather is fabulous!

Housing is crazy expensive. I used to live in the area. My friends with kids use catholic schools, except for one family, and I think that’s because the mom is Jewish. What will your hhi be?

We have friends out there who own multiple homes. Maybe a bubble. So tread carefully.

Tiny homes for very much money, but great opportunities, weather and diversity excepting many blacks. Lots of Asians. Depends on which school districts. Many go to chartre schools. Prioritize a reasonable commute.

OP here - we likely won’t buy but without my salary HHI will be $200K so we’ll be poor relatively speaking. I think DH is just ready for a change but I’m weary about whether this is the right one

$200k there will be dreadful. How much can you earn?

We are from California but can’t move back b/c we won’t make enough, and our friends say it’s a competitive money driven place now — NYC with sunshine.

OP - $200K would be with me as a SAHM. We’d be at $400K if I were to work but all my experience is in a specific type of government consulting which companies there would want me to be a lobbyist - definitely not for me and it would mean traveling back to DC anyway.

Could be a fantastic opportunity or a pain, depends on your attitude.

You'll be in the epicenter of techworld, for good and for bad.

Schools are good but super intense.

So do you think you can handle life with DH working a long our tech company job and you commuting to DC?? Can your mom live with you or anything?
