Prince George’s Co. schools says it can’t fire employee in racial slur video
Prince George’s County Public Schools officials say they can’t fire an employee caught on video admitting to using a racial slur because the woman is a union employee. A viral video posted to Facebook Nov. 12 showed the encounter in a La Plata Walmart parking lot.

The Heavy was kind enough to name Darlene Sale a contracted librarian.

Never going to happen, if they did they would lose all their credibility. While most people would not endorse nasty & hateful speech, allowing someone to be fired for a nasty parking lot interaction off hours and away from work would undercut all employee protections. Should black people be fired every time they use snowflake, cracker or honky off duty? Of course not so let’s not make all nasty exchanges a captial offense.

I can only assume the father was pretty nasty too before she lost cool and her class. She will be humiliated, that is more than enough for yelling at someone during a parking lot fight.

I am ok with her not being fired I just hope she doesn’t have students, it would be tough for those little kids to understand that even their teacher thinks that they are less than human.

It is disgraceful but I agree that there is no way that she could be fired for that since it wasn't on school property and not during work hours.

The union can’t just terminate her membership. That’s not how unions work.
If she can’t be fired she should be reassigned to a position that’s not student-facing. I hope PGCPS takes this seriously.

Anyone who uses the n word in a moment of ugly has really racist thoughts. I’ve said things I’ve regretted when angry but never any racist slurs.
