I am currently 39 weeks pregnant and was reading that it's important to buy nursing bras to take with you to the hospital. Since you usually get larger after your milk comes in, how do I know what size bras to buy? I have been reading that you should buy a cup size larger than you are now- is this the standard rule? Thanks! |
Try the nursing tanks at Target--they're relatively inexpensive, pretty supportive (and I say that as someone with plenty to support), comfortable to sleep in, keep your stomach/back covered while you're nursing, and stretchy enough to accommodate your changing size as your milk comes in. I didn't buy real nursing bras until about a month after DS was born. He's almost three months now, and I still prefer to wear the tanks I originally got from Target. |
The Yes! maternity and nursing bra is what I wear exclusively. I get them off of Ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/YES-Maternity-Nursing-Bra-Sports-style-beige-42-46-DD_W0QQitemZ180083702548QQihZ008QQcategoryZ11517QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem). The seller is great at helping you determine what size you are and what size you will need. |
I would recommend getting a couple of those stretchy bras with the elastic support (Target has them (cheaper), bravado also makes them). They have a criss-cross design in the front and even look super comfy (not pretty at all). At least one cup size bigger. You're not going to want something with too much support (you'll get much bigger when the milk comes in and you won't want anything tight or with underwire). While I loved the target nursing tanks, I didn't use them until later once my milk supply became regular. I had way too much milk in the beginning and needed nursing pads to control leakage, which don't stay in place very well with the target tanks. |
I delivered at Sibley and they sold nursing bras in the hospital thru the lactation department (they helped fit you & everything). The bras I bought at the hospital fit me throughout (now 6 mo. post partum & still using them). |
Go to BF Center on K st, they will fit you for it and tell you what to expect, and they have a great selection. |
try Majamas from babycenter.com. These bras are basically Small, Medium and large. i am normally a 34b but became a 36c during pregnancy. I bought the Mediums and they work great.
however, if you are very big on the chest i wouldnt recommend them because they may not provide adequate support. But i just love them |
I didn't feel like I needed nursing bras at the hospital post-delivery -- I just unsnapped the gown and started feeding.
Also, it's really hard to know in advance what size you'll be post-pregnancy. I waited to do a bra-fitting with the lactation consultants at Sibley, which was great. They gave me three different bras to try on and picked the one I liked best. Their prices are great and there's no substitute for having someone knowledgeable help you. If you really can't wait, try the Breastfeeding Center on K Street. I know they have a whole wall of nursing bras and I bet they'd help you with sizing. |
