DC is working on this application, which is different from when his older sibling applied. At that time, UMD-CP had its own application.
I am finding it confusing in a few respects: 1. Academic and counselor recommendations: Do those have to be submitted through the Coalition App and therefore must DC write in each such person's email address? 2. Academic Transcript: Does DC really have to list every class, grade, etc.? He already asked for a transcript to be sent, and it has indeed been sent. Help please. Thanks. |

My son submitted his UMD application recently. He invited his recommenders through the application (i.e., provided their email addresses) and they submitted their letters. Some schools may do everything through Naviance - he might want to check with the guidance counselor on that. If he invites them and they end up submitting another way, it's probably no big deal.
Yes, Maryland wants the student reported coursework and grades for grades 9 through 12 for some reason. I have no idea why. (One of my kid's other coalition schools actually doesn't require a transcript unless you enroll, so it made sense for that school). |

The coalition app wants students to enter their transcripts and grades because it saves admissions offices time.
They will validate what the student enters against their official transcript, but having it entered into the app makes it easier for the colleges to compute GPA based on their own scale for weighting and so forth. FWIW the Common App is going that way too, I think in 2019. |

OP here. Thank you.
Entering the transcript seems insane to me, given the work involved (when a transcript is available), not to mention prone to error. But ok. Another question: Where is the field to submit the essay? I must say, I dislike the Coalition App. |
| You may dislike the Coalition App but you should not be filling it out, your child should, unless you are the one who is applying. |
Agree. I haven’t even seen the apps. My daughter does them. |
Does she have a private college counselor? |
NP. I haven’t seen my son’s apps. No private counselor. |
what’s more error prone - your kid entering their transcript or a kid on work study in the financial aid entering it into a colege’s offline system once they receive your app? |
| Might be different but on the common ap there was a box to check if you were sending a transcript and then you did not have to enter your classes manually. I remember some confusion about that. |
