When I eat the recommended 10 servings a day of veg. and fruit ...

Anonymous
I pretty much poop constantly, all day and night. Ditto for when I actually manage to consume the recommended grams of fiber per day. I may head for the bathroom up to 10 times every day (and not in an IBS, Beano, crampy way. Everything looks/feels healthy, except it's way, way too frequent).

This cannot be right. Can it? Has anyone here been able to overcome this with time?

Glad this is an anonymous board!

I don't have any solutions for you, but I also have been trying to increase my fruit and vegetable intake over the past few months. My diet already had a lot of beans/whole grains in it, so I'm having some of the same problems. I've basically just assumed that the additional fiber has been moving things along faster. Not worried about it, but might mention it at my annual physical in a few months.

Your body needs to adjust to it. So if you only occasionally get that much fiber, it will act. But, if you've built up a "tolerance" to that normal, healthy amount then your body will adapt its processing and elimination as well.

Have you experimented with timing of meals? Perhaps if you just have two or three meals and no snacking, it will help your body get regular.

Are you having a lot of diuretics too? For example coffee?

I've been a vegetarian for a long time and that's basically just my life. I never understood why DH felt the need to "announce" that he needed to make a poop, but for him, it's only once a day.

A BM ten times a day really does seem extreme. Are you exaggerating a little?

Also that 10 servings a day -- I think it's more like 5 to 9 isn't it? And some of those "servings" are awfully small -- like 6 carrots, or a cup of lettuce. Is it possible you are just overdoing it?

Check out this website if you are:

But basically yes -- if you truly are eacting some 4 cups of fruits and vegetables each day, plus a lot of whole grains -- that's a lot of fiber and bulk, and it has to come out!

OP back again; thank you for not laughing me off the stage and for the suggestions. I really do mean 4 cups+, which is more than the feds recommend but is right in line with various anti-cancer diet type models. sigh.
