What to serve at baby shower cocktail party??

Anonymous
I'm hosting my best friend's baby shower, which will be an evening co-ed event so the food will be cocktail party food. Here's where it gets tricky for me: She and her husband don't eat meat, and all of my recipes rely on meat I'm at a loss. Please share your kick a## recipes that are vegetarian friendly! So far I'm thinking shrimp cocktail, but I'd like to make/cook at least 2 really yummy items (I don't want to buy everything pre made at the store).

I want her to have an amazing evening with lots of delicious food that she'll enjoy. Thanks for your suggestions and inspirations!

1) hummus platter: several different types of store boughgt or homemade hummus, with fresh vegetables and puta chips for dip. Trader Joes makes a delicious edamame hummus.

2) cheese platter with really nice grapes (or a pot of fondue with cut up crusty bread?)

3) vegetable sushi

If you are open to ordering something instead of making it yourself, Lebanese Taverna has these enormous Lebanese Feast platters of dips, salads, grape leaves, cheese pastries, etc. and almost all of them are vegetarian. I'm sure they could do it completely vegetarian if you ask them. I've ordered from them in the past for vegetarian guests and they've loved it.

OP here. Thanks for the tips - keep them coming! I'd love to get some delicious recipes. The baby shower will be out of state so Lebanese Taverna isn't an option. Too bad - great idea. Love the cheese fondue idea!

Paula Deen has a spinach-artichoke dip recipe that I tried recently and it was a huge hit.

Stuffed mushroom caps - fill with a mixture of bread, mushroom stems, onion, herbs, and maybe cheese. I like to make tzatziki (yogurt dip with dill and garlic) and serve with pita and various raw and blanched vegetables.

Also, if your friends don't eat "meat", then perhaps they also don't eat fish and shellfish? You should check before you bring shrimp.
