If you're due in a few weeks, does DH count as a priority group?

I'm due in late Nov/early Dec, and trying to figure out if DH should try to get the H1N1 vaccine now, or wait until it's been opened to the general public.

If I were due imminently, I'd think DH should try to get the shot, but I have another 6 weeks or so, so I'm thinking he can wait. What are the rest of the husbands of pregnant women doing?

Unless your husband has a medical condition that requires him to get the shot, he can get the nasal spray. Yes, I'd make sure he gets protected, but would urge him to save the vaccine for those who can't use the other alternative.

I'm 25wks, getting the shot this week. My husband will get it, but will either get the flumist or wait another month or so until the priority rush dies down and then get the shot.

I'm due in 3 weeks and I'm in the same predictament at you. I can easily get the H1N1 shot at the hosptial in the Recovery Room (called to verify your hospital/birthing center has it available) however the hospital will not give it to DH due to their short supply. Only the patient will receive the shot. DH is unsure he will be able to get the shot and I may need to stand in line with him to prove he's in the priorty group (a individuals who will be taking care of a child under 6 months). I firmly believe he's more of a danger to the baby since I will have limited to access to the outside world while on maternity leave and he will continue to work (hence bringing home germs). In addition, it take 2 weeks for the vaccine to be fully digested by the body and become effective.

My recommendation is that you aim to get the shot now with DH however since it is widely stated that public access to the vaccine mid-November, I wouldn't stress out about it if you don't get it immediately. I would recommend you get the regular season flu shot in the meanwhile. At least you can stagger the two shots so your body won't be overwhelmed. You will still be bumped in front of the line for the H1N1 due to your status and it may be easier to obtain by waiting while there isn't this mass hysteria going on. I mostly worry about standing in line since my stamina isn't so hot these days and there are no seating options for pregnant women in line.

I asked this very same question to three different people working at the PG County Health Dept this morning when I was vaccinated. They all said to send him on in to get vaccinated. They never even raised an eyebrow at the fact that he's technically not in a priority group since I am yet to give birth.

I got vaccinated in Arlington, but I am a SAHD with a newborn due in a few weeks. I do not know whether you need to be a primary caregiver or either parent. I had a very round wife with me as evidence of the imminent baby.

Just go. They are vaccinating anyone/everyone who shows up.
